  2. Habitat: • Lives in forests, deserts and grasslands • Habitat has lots of trees, dirt, sand, grass, water, logs and twigs • Lives in some cities • Can find rabbits in fields, swamps, marches, woods, parks, big cities and farms • Lives in North America

  3. Description • Are white, brown, black, gray • About 1 foot • Weighs about 2 or 3 pounds • Has big ears, short fluffy tails, and are fluffy all over • Fur blends in with surroundings

  4. Adaptation: • Camouflage • Big feet help get away from prey • Big ears help hear from all directions • Big eyes help them see prey from behind, sides and front • Keen sense of smell to smell food and prey

  5. Food chain • It’s a herbivore • Foxes, owls, coyotes, weasels, and lynx eat rabbits • In fall they eat leaves, clover, flowers, grass • Eat plants • In winter eats buds, twigs, bark • Eat clover instead of carrots

  6. Interesting facts: • Some countries say carrying a rabbits foot is good luck • Rabbits in North America are only called cottontails • Often lives between 7 or 8 years but some can live to 15 years • Hares are able to see at birth but rabbits can’t • Desert cottontails can climb trees

  7. Harm to Habitat: • Cut down trees so to help them we can plant new trees • Dig up dirt so to help them we can tell them not to dig it up • Cover rabbits dens back up so to help them we can make them a new den
