  1. Opening Questions • What is your criteria for something to be alive? • Give me one example of something that is alive. • Give me one example of something that is not alive.

  2. Objective: I will be able to identify the characteristics of living things as evidenced by creating an Educreations Presentation Characteristics of Living Things 9-6 or 9-7

  4. 1. Respond to Stimulus • Stimulus – something that causes a response • Example: • When you go outside after being in a dark movie theater you squint your eyes

  5. 2. Use Chemical Energy • Chemical Energy- energy from food • Energy – the ability to cause change or do work • There are different kinds, all interchangeable

  6. 3. Grow and Develop • Growth- an increase in size, mass or number of cells • Development- Looks different than it did when it was a baby or old

  7. 4. Reproduce • Reproduction – the process of making more of the same kind of organism • Without it life would die

  8. 5. Made up of Cells • Cell – the smallest/basic unit of life • Even organisms that are super small are made out of cells (ex: yeast)

  10. A Mnemoric device for the 5 characteristic of living things • Cells, • Energy, • Respond(stimulus) • Grow/develop • Reproduce. • Your turn to create a mnemoric device Example: CERGR: Cats eat really gross rats.

Flip The Classroom! • You will become the teacher • You will make a “Characteristic of Living Things” presentation • You will use your iPad and create a presentation using Educreations • This presentation will be presented to your classmates so we better understand each characteristic of living things
