  1. Preparations for training Methods and issues

  2. Introduction • Role of trainer includes organisation of the training • Effective learning depends on how well the course is organised • Since, in your case, the training is highly localised, a high degree of co-operation with the operations is essential • Organising includes training facilities and handling the other comforts during the training

  3. Getting the right trainees • Unless the trainees apply what they have learnt, entire training program is in jeopardy • Probable reasons are • Trainees for the course are not carefully chosen • On completion of training, they are posted to some other branch • They go back to the same work but are not allowed to use the skill acquired • Your role in getting right trainees • Since the training is highly skill oriented and localised, you can discuss with divisional head before deputations take place • Some training programs prescribe entry level requirements and also has an entry level test; • Discuss the requirements with the office and also share results of entry level test (only for ensuring right trainees) • Ensure that you have the right mix (over qualified trainees grouped with under qualified trainees is a big de-motivating factor)

  4. Getting ready for the training • Preparations for the training • Obtain the STP (Standardised training Package) • Familiarise yourself with the contents • Update the material with current data, if required and intimate the designers about change needed • Obtain the materials required • Prepare the time table and choose the trainers • Get the print out of the reading material and exercises for the batch • Store the materials in packets day-wise and secure the master • Prepare or obtain the keys for the exercises/tests

  5. Getting ready for training • Obtain the latest versions of the software • Understand the process of installation • Discuss with the offices about the common errors in operations and document for discussion in training • In case of training on FINACLE or Mccamish, obtain the user accounts required

  6. Environment in training lab • The training lab to have a server (Windows 2003, 2008 server) and client systems; The network to be preferably configured as domain • The lab should be connected to SIFY network and address configured • Anti virus solution to exist in all systems and auto update enabled • For the demo, multimedia projector or other options like Netsupport school to be available • Sufficient lighting to be available • Trainees to watch the configuration in the centre’s lab

  7. Preparing the training lab • For Meghdoot and Sanchay Post • The training may be either in client/server or desktop mode • Data to be created in one system and copied to all other systems for desktop mode • For training on epayment/emo, obtain users IDs for performing administrative tasks • Watch the demo of configuring all the modules; Follow this up with practice

  8. Preparing the training lab • For running Finacle and Mccamish applications, configuration can proceed as below • The internet explorer should be of the prescribed version • Java run time environment application has to be of the prescribed version • The IE environment has to be configured as per the document circulated • Watch the demo of the configuration and discuss issues • Note down the code given by SIFY and the toll free number for raising trouble tickets in situations of failure of network, at prominent place • Note down the support person details for CBS and PLI solutions for solutions

  9. Security in the training lab • Apart from antivirus solutions, CD/DVD drives and USB ports have to be disabled in trainee systems to prevent wrong usage • User accounts to be given to trainees that do not have administrative rights • Systems should not be moved within or outside the labs as SIFY is mapping the ports to individual MAC addresses of the systems

  10. This completes the unit Thank you
