  2. RowanSOM Student Health Requirements/Insurance • All students are required to have and maintain health insurance. • Aetna Insurance • Annual cost is $4810.00, period 7/30/18-729/2019. There is no option for dependent spouse or children, only for the student. • Comprehensive coverage • Optional dental and vision coverage at additional cost

RowanSOM Student Health Insurance 2017-2018 • To waive the School’s insurance, students may go online www.aetnastudenthealth.com and click “Find your School” and scroll to Rowan University, then choose the School of Osteopathic medicine on the next page. • The waiver form link is on the left side of the webpage, labelled “enroll/waive” • Deadline to complete waiver: 9/15/2018

Enrolling in Aetna-recap • All SOM students are automatically enrolled • Follow instructions for enrollment/WAIVE • If you wish to waive: • MUST complete the online waiver by September 15, 2018 or you will be responsible for the full premium of $4810.00 • Please go to www.aetnastudenthealth.com and create an account/ print out a health insurance card • Gives you access to participating physician lists, tracking expenses, payments, prescription history etc. • Go to school – choose “Rowan” then select “School of Osteopathic Medicine”

RowanSOM Student Health Requirements • Complete SOM medical history questionnaire and undergo a physical examination • Should be done by your private physician. • If needed, can be done as a new patient appointment at the SOM Department of Family Medicine (RMB 2nd Floor) • This exam is not covered by the school insurance

  6. RowanSOM Student Health Requirements Immunizations: • A Tdap booster within 5 years • Two doses of MMR vaccine • Three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine • Two doses of Varicella vaccine • Annual influenza vaccination (Fall/Winter) is required

RowanSOM Student Health Requirements • Required testing: • A mantoux (PPD) test - 2-step initially then 1 step annually or TB gold annually(unless previous +) • ***Hepatitis B infection screening*** • HepB surf Ag, HepB surf AB(quantitative) • HepB core Ab, total • Serologic proof of immunity to Varicella-Zoster virus, Hepatitis B virus, AND immunity to Roseola (measles),Mumps and Rubella (German measles) within the past five years. • following vaccination/disease- prior to patient contact

Incomplete prematriculation requirements: • You may have missing prematriculation requirements due to: • Lack of immunity requiring boosters AND follow up titers • Incomplete laboratory reports • Late/July acceptance It is YOUR responsibility to complete these and submit them to Student Health ASAP If not submitted in a timely fashion, it may impact your studies.

RowanSOM Student Health Services • The Office of Student Affairsprovides administrative support: • Enrollment information for optional vision and dental insurance • General information about the school student health insurance policy and information regarding waiving the policy (annually) • Help with difficult claims • Dissemination of student health policies & related information

RowanSOM Student Health Services • Employee/Student Health Office (RMB 2500) provides: • Administration of the annual PPD (Mantoux) testing and mandatory annual influenza vaccination of all students • Maintenance of student health records • Administrative review of student records • Provides documentation of all immunizations to clerkships or clinical sites as needed • **NOT a free health clinic**

Obtaining Health Care Services • You must work within the guidelines established by your health insurance coverage. • Goal - Obtain health care at the least cost to you • You MUST have insurance for the entire year! If your personal insurance coverage changes, contact the Office of Student Affairs immediately. (You only have 30 days to enroll in the school plan).

What is the Rowan Aetna Plan? • It is NOT an HMO • No referrals needed from your primary care doctor. • You may “self refer” to a participating doctor. • It is a “Preferred Provider Network” (PPO) • Use “In-Network” doctors, hospitals, labs and X-ray facilities to reduce your out -of -pocket expenses

Out-of-Pocket Expenses (in-network / “Preferred Care”) • $100 annual deductible per person • 90% of the negotiated fee paid (PA-preferred allowance) • $25 copay per visit outpatient physician visit • 10% of the charge for the following services: lab and x-ray expenses/emergency care/surgery • 10% of inpatient charges (PA) • 0% physician inpatient visit if non-surgical (100% PA) • $2,500 annual out of pocket maximum per person (does not include prescription costs, copays)

Out-of-Pocket Expenses (Out-of-network / “Non-Preferred Care”) • $500 annual deductible/per person • $10,000 annual out of pocket max per person (does not include prescription costs). • 60% paid of “usual and customary” and other fees that may be balance billed • Emergency Care: You are responsible for 10% of reasonable charges and other fees that may be balance billed. (treated as preferred provider for emergency services).

  16. In–Network vs Out of Network • Use in-network providers for maximum coverage of ER, hospital, X-ray and laboratory costs unless it’s an emergency. • 90% vs 60% or less coverage • Some necessary immunizations are covered but not all – e.g. travel vaccines

  17. RowanSOM laboratory tests • In later years, some rotations require additional testing which may not be covered, such as Hep C or Urine Drug Screening (UDS). • RowanSOM Student Health offers UDS for $25 through Student Health in the RMP. UDS tests are paid in advance by the student. (cash or certified check) • DO NOT GO THROUGH INSURANCE! Tests can cost over $600.00!

  18. OB/GYN and Preventative Care • Maternity care is covered as any sickness • Women’s health and other USPTF recommended care covered at 100%, (copay may be required)

Mental Health Benefits • Aetna will pay 90% of the in-network PA and 60% out-of-network charge • Mental health and substance abuse treatments are both covered as any illness • Self-referral, phone number on card • Student Wellness Program -free • Short term mental health counseling • Phone number 856-770-5750

Prescriptions Copayment: generic at par-pharmacy: 30 day supply- $15 31-59 day supply, mail order - $37.50 60-90 day supply, mail order - $37.50 Please review coverage for brand name/non-formulary medications at: www.aetnastudenthealth.com Tobacco cessation and female contraception may be fully covered with certain conditions, please refer to your coverage certificate

  21. Dental and Vision • Routine dental or vision care coverage are not covered by the school’s insurance. Dental or vision treatment due to an injury may be covered by Aetna under the medical insurance. • No insurance add-ons are available for dental and vision. • However, there is an optional student dental discount program that can be enrolled in from the Aetna student health insurance site.

  22. Smoke-free Campus • RowanSOM is a tobacco free campus • No cigarettes/cigars • No chewing tobacco or SNUS • No electronic cigarettes • NO WHERE ON CAMPUS GROUNDS IS USE ACCEPTABLE, INCLUDING IN CARS • NRP (nicotine replacement products) are acceptable (patches,gum,lozenges)

  23. Smoking Cessation Program • Free 6 week program for staff, faculty and students • Group or individual program of counseling/monitoring/support • Run by Certified Tobacco Cessation Counselors, includes a physician on the panel • Self referral, contact Charise in ESH
