How much do I have to pay to see a doctor at the SHC? • Nothing, it’s FREE! • If you are a student at UNCC, your fees pay for you to see a physician at no charge. • All students are eligible regardless of their insurance. • Please note, there are charges for pharmacy, lab, x-ray, allergy shots and some procedures.
What todo when the Student Health Center is closed? • Healthlink • Talk to a nurse whenever the SHC is closed to ask for medical advice or just to ask questions • To reach Healthlink: • Call the Student Health Center after hours • Go to the Student Health Center website • Walk-in urgent care clinics near the university • CVS Minute Clinic, 3.3 miles • Next Care Urgent Care, 5.8 miles • Carolinas Health Care Urgent Care, 5.8 miles • A complete list is available on the SHC website • Our local hospital is Carolinas Medical • Center-University
BASICS – A service provided for students who receive an alcohol or drug citation. • Students who are sanctioned to the Center for Wellness Promotion will be required to meet with a BASICS staff member, one-on-one, for an initial 15-minute intake appointment. • There are also resources for those who would like to quit drinking voluntarily. • The phone number for the appointment desk is 704‑687‑7400 A Service offered by the Center for Wellness Promotion
Free Smoking Cessation • UNC Charlotte has a voluntary tobacco cessation program. Interested students will see a health educator for an initial 45 minute appointment to discuss a quit plan, withdrawal symptoms, and nicotine replacement products and/or medicinal options. • Quit packs are also available 704‑687‑5884 A Service offered by the Center for Wellness Promotion
Consultation and counseling regarding sexual orientation, sexuality, STI diagnosis • Sexual health counseling is offered to UNC Charlotte students free of charge. Students are encouraged to make an appointment if they have any questions about their sexual health, contraception, STIs, or other issues and questions related to sexuality or relationships. Consultations and counseling regarding sexual assault, rape or domestic violence. • If you or someone you know has been affected by Interpersonal Violence, help is available. • Health check-up, STI/HIV screening, health counseling, pharmacyIndividual and group counseling- Call 704‑687‑7400. • Interpersonal violence information, supports, advocacy, links to resources, and prevention programming- Call 704‑687‑7348. Educational opportunities about a variety of wellness topics • Games and presentations are available from the CWP for campus clubs, RA programs, fraternities/ sororities, and all of your other programming needs. • Check the Center for Wellness website to view the calendar for upcoming CWP events such as Wellness Wednesdays held in the Student Union. CARE Packages • Condom Access for Responsible Encounters (C.A.R.E.) Packages are available to all UNC Charlotte students free of charge. • CARE Packages contain condoms, lubricant, and instructions for proper condom use. • UNC Charlotte students may pick up CARE Packages in the Wellness Promotion Department during regular Student Health Center hours. Did You Know… • Your parents or guardians CANNOT call and obtain all of your information from visits to the Student Health Center • Confidentiality protects you. Staff members cannot confirm nor deny that they have seen you. • Information can only be released with a student’s explicit and documented consent.
