  3. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS How many credits do you need?? 4 English 4 Math 4 Science 4 Social Studies .5 Communication Applications .5 Health 2 Foreign Language 1 Fine Art • 1 Physical Education • 5 Electives • TOTAL = 26

  4. THE TRUTH ABOUT TESTS Students who entered 9th grade in 2011 must pass 15 STAAR end-of-course (EOC) exams in English reading, English writing, math, science and social studies in order to graduate.

  5. EOC Assessments • Algebra I • Geometry • Algebra II • Biology • Chemistry • Physics • English I Reading & Writing • English II Reading & Writing • English III Reading & Writing • World Geography • World History • US History

  6. TESTING Requirements for recommended Achievement High School Graduation Plan From Texas Education Agency website: • Minimum is not passing. If you meet the Minimum score, but do not meet Level II Satisfactory, you will be required to take the test over. • And… you must meet a cumulative (adding all three scores together) score total for each subject to graduate. • The cumulative score for English assessments is 5625 and the cumulative score for all the other assessments is 10,500.

  7. BUT WAIT…THAT’S NOT ALL • You must also score Level II on the Algebra II and English III EOC STAAR tests to graduate on the Recommended Plan. • Level II scale score for the English III reading and English III writing is 1875 or above. • Student must achieve a scale score of at least 3500 on Algebra II.

Distinguished graduation plan • Meet all the graduation requirements for the Recommended Plan PLUS… • Successfully complete 3 years of a foreign language instead of two. • Four advanced measures that demonstrate student performance at the college level: • Original research project • A score of three or above on an AP exam • College academic courses with a grade of 3.0 • PSAT score that qualifies the student for recognition

TESTING Requirements for Distinguished Achievement High School Graduation Plan From Texas Education Agency website: • Student must achieve a scale score of at least 2135 on English III reading. • Student must achieve a scale score of at least 2155 on English III writing. • Student must achieve a scale score of at least 4080 on Algebra II.

  10. Wow! How can I be sure to graduate on time? • Know your scores! • Come to tutoring and intersession and work to get the highest score on the EOC possible. • You can take the EOC as many times as you would like to reach Level II or Level III • Use your Academic Target and District Assessment scores to help you know how you are doing and what you still need to learn

Early College Start • Starting the summer after your sophomore year, you are able to take 2 ACC classes each semester = 12 college classes for FREE • Attend the ACC Kickoff meeting with your parents on January 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the BHS cafetorium. • Meet with your counselor to get the ECS checklist. • Take the ACCUPLACER.

  12. Things to do this year… • Research your top career choices to see what additional education you need. (Career Cruising) • Take Pre-AP, AP, and ACC courses to prepare for the rigor of college • Get your resume started (Career Cruising) • Investigate and make a list of your top 6–8 post-secondary education options.

  13. WHAT are colleges looking for? • GPA/Grades/Rank • Junior year is the last year shown on your transcript for college admissions and most scholarship deadlines! • Courses • Test Scores • Essays • Letters of Recommendation • Extracurricular activities (should illustrate leadership/dedication/service)

  14. Helpful hints: • If you ever need your official transcript, see Mrs. Braley in the Registrar’s office • Will need a request form from her and $2.00 • If you have attendance hours you need to make up, see your AP to make arrangements • If you’re struggling in class, attend tutorials or set up additional time with your teacher • Your GPA and Class Rank are found on the bottom of your transcript and are updated each semester
