  2. BACKGROUND • MTT RECOMMENDATION: • Only 2 Structures: Government Department & a NGO • Will be formed from NOCSA, SACGA, DISSA, SASC, SRSA, SASSU & USSASA • STEERING COMMITTEE DECISION: • Government: Mass Participation • NGO: High Performance Sport

  3. BACKGROUND • MASS PARTICIPATION INCLUDES: • All school sport except multi-coded national teams to ISF & COSASSA events • Community Mass Participation Programmes • Social Leagues • Indigenous Games • Student intra-campus sport • Recreation • Talent ID

  4. BACKGROUND • HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORT: • Team SA presentation and preparation for Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth, All Africa, World Games • Academy System, • Education & Training • Bidding and hosting • National Colours

  5. HOW WILL GOVERNMENTDEAL WITH SCHOOL SPORT?

SCHOOL SPORT • MASS PARTICIPATION • Includes inter-school, inter-regional, inter-provincial (national) programmes • All Athletes with a disability part of this programme • Physically disabled are mostly located in mainstream schools • Intellectually Impaired and Deaf are mainly located in LSEN Schools • Government coordinate • NATIONAL SCHOOLS TEAMS • SportsCO prepare and present the multi-coded teams • National schools Code Committees and the National Federations will prepare and present single code teams (SportsCo oversight role?)

SCHOOL SPORT COORDINATION - NATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD Representatives of SRSA, DoE, Teacher Unions, National School Governing structures, SportsCo, Representatives of School sport codes, Disability Representative • CORE FUNCTIONS • Ensure coordination with broad government priorities, strategies and programmes • Ensure equal opportunities for all learners (Including disabled, Women, Rural, etc) • Sanction events calendar • Monitor • Advise • Meet once or twice a year

SCHOOL SPORT COORDINATION - NATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE SRSA, DoE, Provincial Government (TIC), Representatives of national school sport codes, Representatives of National federations including Representatives for the disabled • CORE FUNCTIONS: • Coordinate activities • Ensure proper management, organisation and implementation • Budget for activities • Draw up calendar • Meet once per term

SCHOOL SPORT • PRIORITY SPORT • Athletics, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Softball, Soccer, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Tennis • Sport for disabled learners and Sport for Learners with Special Educational needs • GOVERNMENT FUNDS: • Coaching clinics, capacity building • All Competitive activities • Modified-sport and fun sport programmes

  20. GENERAL PRINCIPLES • NEED FOR A STRONG LINK BETWEEN NATIONAL FEDERATIONS AND SCHOOL SPORT STRUCTURES • Chairpersons of code committees of various structures ex-officio members of the executives of national federations
