  2. Accidents have Human Cost • Deaths and injuries result in • pain and suffering • Permanent disabilityand loss of jobs. • Loss of homes, family distress • economic disaster for the workers and their families , often, for the employer as well.

  3. Accident Prevention Saves Money • Injuries cost us all. • Lost time by workers and supervisors • Damaged equipment and product • Loss of production, reduced employee morale. • Cost to train replacement workers.

  4. In addition to the direct cost there are some hidden costs like medical and time loss payments. • National Safety Council estimates that for every dollar of direct cost there are an additional $4-$10 in hidden costs.

  5. It’s the Law • Employers are required to have an Accident Prevention Program.

  6. Workers have right to compensation • Connecticut employers are required to maintain workers’ compensation insurance for the benefit of its employees. • Workers’ Compensation covers medical expenses and lost wages for an employee’s job related injury or illness, even if the employee is at fault for his or her own injuries. In exchange, the employee agrees not to sue his or her employer in court for damages.
