  2. Why a survey? • Enrollment committee was looking for a tangible way to measure the success of marketing and communication efforts • Provide MISA with feedback • Take a pulse of the currently declared major and minor students

  3. Survey Highlights • Survey open November 17 – December 6, 2010 • Distributed to 217 currently declared students • 9 questions • 88 responses Half of all surveys receive a minimum 26% response rate

Initial Awareness “Other” Comments: • IT/IS Expo at Kent Student Center • Have known for some time that Kent offers it • The CISCO teacher at my highschool gave a presentation • Kent Stark Advisor • A Kent State University career fair • A career fair at another location (not Kent) • Other Career Services event • Parent • I read information on the job market through various websites and have always enjoyed working with computers.

  7. Deciding Factor “Other” Comments: • Currently in the field and want to get degree in field • I am a non-traditional student with a full-time career. I changed to this concentration to finish my degree because it will be the most beneficial for advancement on my current career path. • I took a few computer classes and found out how much I really enjoyed it so when I transferred from U of Akron, who at the time didn’t have a CIS major, I decided to major in it; this is the reason why I decided to transfer to Kent State • Computer Applications Course (G. Steinberg) • High School Courses in MCSE and Comptia A+ Certification • Less math and science than the computer science major • This field has job security

  13. MISA “Other” Comments: • Why did you decide not to join at this time?: • I will join when I have taken a CIS specific class • There are always CIS classes scheduled during the MISA meeting times • Meeting time is consistently bad
