  2. I am a laboratory technology that specializes on blood bank. In order to become a laboratory tech, I went to school for 4 years and did over 400 hrs. of practices before obtaining my license. My job is to screened, categorized, and separated blood. I do all these to make sure that the blood supply to the doctors and hospitals is safe to use. My job

  3. Blood comes to our laboratory from persons called, blood donors. A donor can donate their blood by either coming to our laboratory or taking advantage of a mobile blood collection center. The mobile collecting centers are buses that have been modified to properly and safely collect blood. Collecting blood

  4. Before blood can be use by a hospital, it must be separated by type, and tested to make sure that is free of diseases and safe for a person to received. Even thought all blood is red, they are different blood types. The blood types are A, B, AB and O and they also have a - or + sign after. If the wrong blood type is given to a sick person, the person can become sicker. If you need to know your blood type, you can ask your mom or dad. I am pretty sure they know. Blood types

  5. Blood Components At times bloods it is also separated on its different components, Plasma. Red blood cells. White blood cells. Platelets. We do this to make sure that the person that is sick, only received the part of the blood that he or she really needs. Every part of the blood has an specific function.

  6. Transports oxygen. It is given to persons that are have anemia. (low red blood cell count) Red blood cells

  7. 5 type of cells. They fight infections by eating the microorganisms. They are given to persons that have a severe infections. White blood cells

  8. Help stop the bleeding by getting together and form a clot. They are given to persons that are receiving chemotherapy treatment due to cancer or tumors. Platelets

  9. To properly screen, analyzed and separate the blood we use different equipment and tools. Some of them are: Microscope. In the laboratory

  11. People Gel card Petri dish

  12. Once the blood is properly screened, classified and separated it most be properly stored. For these purpose we use special plastic bags and refrigerators that can keep the blood to a chilled 2 to 8 degree centigrade The blood seats on the refrigerator for a maximum of 45 days waiting for a hospital to request it in order to help a sick person. If the blood is not use before their time it is safely discard. Storage

  13. Red blood cells carry oxygen to every part in the body. Platelets help to stop bleedings when you cut yourself. White blood cells fight infections. Blood is very important
