  7. Postdoc Positions • Fellowships • Freedom but rare • Postdoctoral Research Assistant: • tied to project • Existing project or new project • Further training • Cast net wide

  8. Non academic sectors • Private sector • Technology development ( e.g., Tobi, EGI) • Virgin Media, Twitter • Pampers, Matel • Government sector • Home office, Fisheries, Civil Service LOTS OF OTHER OPTIONS

  9. Career Breaks??? • Possible, but…. • Very hard to get back into academia • Inertia in skill set • In UK and USA, publications count for the most! • Work life balance (see session by Clare Elwell)
