  3. Why eduroam? • (Very) Small wireless deployment already in place • Increasing numbers of mobile devices • Security concerns • RSC were running a project… for free!

  4. More reasons… • Merger on the horizon • Increased mobility of staff and students • Overhead of getting users on the network

  5. The preparation • Two staff attended eduroam training with Dr Alan Buxey • Planning with RSC • Thinking (important!)

  6. The difficulties • Caveat • Safeguarding while roaming • Web filtering • Visited access • Learning curve • e not E

  7. The outcome • Compliant with both home and visited requirements • Informed the need for additional wireless provision • Has fuelled a growth in mobile devices

  9. Moving forward • Mobile device management • Working towards eduroam with Morgannwg • eduroam CAT will make things easier • ‘Guest’ access • Crucially – campus wide wireless
