  2. Academic Load Full-time At least 9 hrs/sem until 3 - 8 hrs will reach prgm requirement (full-time for that semester). Full-time thereafter will be at least 3 hrs/sem.   THE GRADUATE SCHOOL @ NC STATE UNIVERSITY

  3. Academic Load Half-time When full-time > 3 hrs, half-time = 3 hrs When full-time = 3 hrs, half-time = 1 hr THE GRADUATE SCHOOL @ NC STATE UNIVERSITY

  4. Academic Load COP 500 and COP 501 COP 500 = full-time COP 501 only = half-time. THE GRADUATE SCHOOL @ NC STATE UNIVERSITY

  5. Academic Load • XXX 699 and XXX 899 will become ordinary courses – allowable on the Plan of Work   • These courses may be taken with any other courses THE GRADUATE SCHOOL @ NC STATE UNIVERSITY

  6. GSSP Student must be full-time When full-time is less than 9, GSSP requirement will be less than 9 THE GRADUATE SCHOOL @ NC STATE UNIVERSITY

Graduate School Rep • Handbook • The GSR protects the interests of the student, the advisory committee, and the Graduate School. • If a doctoral committee has no representation outside of the student’s program, a GSR is required. • The GSR is an "unbiased person" to whom the Dean may turn for judgment and counsel. Graduate School Rep • Handbook • Each member of the Graduate Faculty is expected to serve in this capacity. • The primary responsibility of the GSR is that of an observer. • The GSR is expected to contribute to the scholarly atmosphere of the examination. Graduate School Rep • Informal and Unofficial Survey • Nine out of our 16 peer institutions require either a GSR or Outside Member • An additional 11 out of 12 institutions have the same requirement • The 12th, UNC-CH, strongly encourages an Outside Member.   13. Graduate School Rep • Administrative Board Recommendations • Continue requiring GSR (or Outside Member) • Assign GSR at time of committee appointment • Consider GSR schedule when scheduling exams • Graduate School should spread the load THE GRADUATE SCHOOL @ NC STATE UNIVERSITY

Administrative Board Topics • Reconsider 9 hr max for assistantship students Motion to replace the specific requirement with a general recommendation • Electronic vs. non-electronic reference letters Investigate wording chg where applicant chooses hard copy vs. electronic Include link for depts to upload hard copies • Discuss attendance options for DR prelim oral Now open to all graduate faculty THE GRADUATE SCHOOL @ NC STATE UNIVERSITY
