IEEE LOM • Hva er læringsobjekt: Ethvert element som kan brukes i en undervisningsmessig sammenheng • Store utvidelser for beskrivelse av læringsobjekter inklusiv • Tiltenkt brukergruppe • Tiltenkt bruk av læringsressursen • Metadata elementene bygger på Dublin Core for å bedre kompatibiliteten. Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) og Learning Object Metadata (LOM) er enige om å samarbeide. • Har definerte relasjoner mellom DC og LOM. • Oftest skrevet som XML gjennom en World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standard • Litt historisk bakgrunn • 1997: IMS startet prosjekt • 1997: National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) og the IEEE P.1484 study group (nå the IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee - LTSC) startet liknende prosjekt • The NIST effort merged with the IMS effort, and the IMS began collaborating with the ARIADNE Project, a European Project with an active meta-data definition effort. • 1998: IMS and ARIADNE submitted a joint proposal and specification to IEEE, which formed the basis for the current IEEE Learning Object Meta-data (LOM) base document, which is a classification for a pre-draft IEEE Specification. • 2002:”Final draft” publisert, men oppdateringer kommer fortsatt • Store svakhet: Mangel på praktisk bruk.
