Today’s Agenda • Learning Outcomes- • To build collaborative relationships with the coaches of the Douglass Cluster • To gain a safe partner to engage in a coaching conversation • To examine the practice of coaching through literature • To connect coaching to content as we begin to build our professional learning community • To establish next steps for future coaching forums

  3. Today’s Agenda Learning #1: Getting to Know Our Needs • Purpose: To identify common areas of opportunity within our cluster and collaboratively work to find solutions. Learning #2: Getting to Know the Research • Purpose: To explore the leadership role of the coach through relevant research. Learning #3: Getting to Know the Work • Purpose: To apply knowledge of tools and procedures to the work of instructional coaching.

  4. Today’s Agenda Housekeeping and Calendar Setting • Purpose: To identify key dates and events within our cluster that apply to the work of instructional coaching. Learning #4: Getting to Know Your Goals… • Purpose: To connect our present work to future goals. Evaluation • Purpose: To provide time to process new insights learning and next steps and to give feedback that will support future coaching forums Closure • Purpose: To bring closure to the forum and reconnect with the learning

  8. What are Five Things You Can Do Now to Increase the Instructional Capacity of Your Teachers?

Implement the coaching cycle with fidelity! • Provide support to teachers through modeling lessons, coaching, instructional guidance and collaboration • Assist in monitoring the instructional program by assisting in evaluating lesson plans, observing classes, explaining instructional strategies, conducting informal classroom observations and providing feedback to teachers

  10. Use data to inform instruction • Utilizes observations and achievement data to identify, design and provide professional development to meet the needs of the teachers • Collaborate with teachers to ensure student mastery of standards by assisting with reviewing data, conduct analysis of formative and summative student data and assist with modifications of data driven instructional strategies • Demonstrate to teachers how to effectively utilize data to increase student achievement • Assist with the integration of technology based instructional strategies

  11. Provide information! • Assist in monitoring the use of professional development trainings

  12. Examine Student Work! • Assist and collaborate with teachers in analyzing student work and plan effective lessons

  13. Contribute to the overall improvement of the school • Develop and make modifications to the coaching plan, as needed • All duties assigned by the principal must be in compliance with federal guidelines
