  5. SLP support for creative writing Group Story Writing during speech time • 1. Prewriting - brainstorm topics for the story • 2. Prewriting/outlining -brainstorm ideas for the story • 3. model free-form creative writing (anything goes) drafting of the story • 4. revise/edit sentences • 5. discuss what pictures are needed to illustrate the story/students draw the pictures • 6. publish -finished story with student drawings inserted into powerpoint, printed out to take home

SLP Literacy SupportResearch Papers for Life Skills • Individual Powerpoint research projects – • Pick a topic- each student picks a topic, (e.g. job exploration, favorite topics, social studies or science topics) • Prewriting - Research - SLP helps student do research on the Internet, take notes. Notes are read to student, student chooses what information to include. • Draft/Revise- SLP helps student to create complete sentences about the information and to choose pictures for the presentation. • Narration - Then the student narrates the slides. The narrations are edited together to work on clear articulation, adequate loudness, and accurate grammar. • Presentation – sharing- each student presents their powerpoint to the class. • Take home/publishing – two copies of each powerpoint are printed out, one for the student to take home and one to keep in class.

Have students make a complete sentence about each picture by answering wh-questions about picture (who, what, where, etc) • C. Each student gets a turn to read/narrate the sentences they created as part of the powerpoint (focus on articulation, voice loudness, appropriate grammar) • D. Powerpoints presented to class, on classroom computers for individual review, and may be printed out to take home.

  8. Systematic Phonics (Higher level group) • students gather own materials • review letter sounds and go through lesson together as group • lessons repeated 1 -2 times before going on to next sequential lesson

Community Based instruction • Regular trips to community settings e.g. HEB, Dollar General, restaurants, bank, and post office to generalize functional academics in real world settings (reading menus/signs, planning purchases, counting money for purchases, using communication systems to independently interact with persons in the community)

  21. Behavior Management System “Circles on Work Chart”/Ticket System • This system ties into counting money and saving/using money to make purchases at snack bar and on field trips
