Objectives • Think critically about the way that your use of the internet influences your life; including your perceptions of reality, your ideas about relationships and your ability to interact with other people. • Make connections between real life examples and ideas that have been discussed in the literature we have read during this unit

Essential Question/EEJ Focus How does our constant access to the internet affect the way we interact with the real world, or in other words the world off-line? “Is This Man Cheating on His Wife” - Find 3 pieces of evidence for your EEJ “Growing Up Online” -Find 3 pieces of evidence for your EEJ A Worldwide Community - Find 2 pieces of evidence for your EEJ Total: 8 pieces of evidence

  4. Free write On a separate sheet of paper take about five min to write your thoughts in answer to the following questions: • How would your life be different without the internet? How often do you access the internet? How much time do you spend online each day? What if you could no longer do so?

  6. “IS this Man Cheating on His wife” Questions • Do you think that Mr. Hoogestraat is cheating on his wife? On his wives? Which one is he cheating on or is it neither? Explain your answer. • Is talking to someone through text messages different than talking to someone online? Explain your answer. • Why would someone want to be someone else online? How could this second persona effect their “real life” or their off-line life?

Watch from 16:15 to 23:30 and then answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper http://video.pbs.org/video/1082076027/ QUESTIONS: • Creating an online profile on facebook, Instagram, Twitter or other social media like creating a “Second Life”. Explain why you agree or disagree with this statement • Is it ok to do or say things online that you would feel are wrong to say or do in person? • Make a connection between this clip and either Feed or Fahrenheit 451

A Worldwide Community Watch the following clip and answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper. http://youtu.be/sH78w71PcKA QUESTIONS • The word community used to refer to a group of people who live and work in close proximity, how has the internet expanded our concept of community? • What are some advantages of being able to communicate with and share experiences with people who are far removed from you physically?
