2. Where did people live? • Homes made of clay, brick, and straw • Usually 1 room with a dirt floor, grass roof • No windows

3. You sleep where!? • On the ground on a mat • You would use a stone or piece of wood as your pillow • If it’s hot, you probably sleep on your roof

4. Furniture? What furniture? • Common furniture consisted of a table, a spinning wheel, an olive-oil lamp, and a wooden bowl • You usually had a cave to shelter your goats and donkeys in your house (it also kept you warm!)

5. I had HOW MANY siblings!? • You probably came from a large family. • Your father was a craftsman or fisherman. He probably had a beard. He wore a sleeveless gown covered by a long tunic and tied with a belt. He also wore a cloth head covering. He is the head of the household and his wife and children are his property

6. I had HOW MANY siblings!? Cont. • Your mother stayed home and kept up the house. She cooked, cleaned, made clothes and took care of the children. She wears a decorated tunic and a veil over her face when she goes out. She does not read or write, but she does memorize Scripture. She goes daily to the town well.

7. I had HOW MANY siblings!? Cont. • Your brothers go to synagogue school from ages 5-12, where the Rabbi teaches them to read scripture. Your dad will teach you a trade. • Your sisters stay home and learn how to keep house from your mom. They probably will have an arranged marriage.

8. What did I do for fun? • You did not go to public entertainment because Gentiles were there. • Life revolved around prayer and religious celebrations. Weddings and funerals lasted for days.

9. I’m hungry!! • You ate on the ground with your hands. • Your diet consisted of bread, honey, spiced foods, cheese, vegetables, fruit and fish. You usually drink water or wine. • You rarely eat meat or eggs.

10. ¿Habloespañol? No. • You would probably speak Aramaic. You would pray in Hebrew and possibly speak some Greek.
