  1. pteonlinereview@jroozreview.com | info@pteacademic.com.ph Dos and Don’ts When Taking the PTE Speaking Exam The PTE speaking exam is arguably the most nerve-wracking part of the life-changing test. You have less than a minute to come up with a response in most of the tasks, and it’s crucial that your answers are meaningful and well-delivered. So, make sure you maximize your PTE review period. Take classes at the PTE review center in Makati to hone your speaking skills specifically for the exam. Follow the dos and don’ts below to enhance your test performance. DO 1. Complete your sentences – Although verbal communication is not as strict about structure and grammar as written communication, this does not mean that you can speak in fragments and phrases. In the PTE speaking exam, it’s critical that you deliver your responses in complete sentences.

  2. Avoid stopping mid-sentence to convey another idea. If something seems off about your current idea, finish the sentence anyway before backtracking and revising your response. 2. Structure your responses – This is one of the most effective strategies to get a high score in oral fluency. When tasked to discuss a topic or explain an idea, make sure you have an intro, body, and essay. Use transition signals to introduce a new thought. Practice this technique during your PTE review period. 3. Minimize fillers–Saying “like,” “um,” “maybe,” and other fillers can reduce your speaking score. So, make sure you don’t use them too much during the exam. Pay attention to how you speak. Instead of resorting to filler expressions to rectify awkward silence, be forward and let the instructor know that you’re thinking about your answer. Punctuate your responses with strategic pauses. DON’T 1. Speak too fast–If you’re taking classes at the PTE review center in Makati, this is one of the first things your instructor will warn you about. There are two reasons why people talk fast. It’s either their way of getting the nerve-wracking exam done as soon as possible or their way of demonstrating their fluency. Don’t commit the same mistake. Regardless of your reason, avoid talking fast during the PTE speaking exam. Slow down and enunciate your answers well. 2. Use slang and colloquial language – PTE Academic, as its name implies, is designed for people who want to get into academic settings abroad. So, avoid using casual or informal language during the exam. Imagine you’re in a university classroom and conversing with a professor or participating in a class discussion. Structure your answers and use advanced vocabulary. 3. Forget to develop your pronunciation skills – Mispronouncing words can significantly bring down your PTE speaking grade, regardless of how well structured and meaningful your responses are. Avoid this problem by expanding your vocabulary during your PTE review period. Install a dictionary app on your phone. Consult it whenever you encounter an unfamiliar expression when reading. The PTE speaking test is the first component of the high-stakes exam. This means that how well you perform in it can affect your performance in the writing, reading, and listening exams. Perform poorly, and you’ll start to doubt your abilities. Perform well, and you’ll feel more relaxed and confident facing the following exams. So, don’t cut corners during your PTE training. Adopt these dos and don’ts to supercharge your test performance. Prepare with the PTE review center in Makati to go over and beyond your score goals!
