  3. Square Footage • The square footage of the entire one floor residential building is 4404 sq/ft.

Building Materials • Recycled Content drywall and Bamboo flooring, countertops and cabinets all help to make it green and attractive. • It has a metal roof which lasts longer and is better at energy efficiency. Rubber mulch won’t decompose and is not subject to being eaten by insects and is a recycled material. Skylights help save energy by allowing natural sunlight in. In many cases it can completely replace lighting on some days and on other days help to keep lights down.

  6. Building Materials • Geothermal HVAC. Recycle Natural Cotton used for insulation. • The green techniques cost more upfront but save in the long term by being more efficient with energy.

  7. Floor Plan Layout • To keep costs down. I’ve roomed two people per room making it a 5 bedroom residential home. Each room has a bathroom. There is a common bathroom in a hall. The living room is large but a plastic curtain can be pulled to effectively turn it into two smaller living rooms. The dining room accommodates all residents. The privacy room is to get away from other resident if need be.

Timeline • Loan processing: 30 days. • Lot walk with owner. • Site preparation: 30 days. • The framing will come next along with window/door installation: 30 days. • Roofing: 2 weeks. • Electricians will do the preliminary work overlapping with roofing: 1 week. • Plumbing for 4500 sq\ft house, preliminary: 1 week

Timeline • Preliminary HVAC installed along side plumbing and electricity: 1 week • Insulation installed, drywall and trim + subflooring: 3 weeks • Siding installed: 1 week. • Final electric, plumbing, HVAC installed: 1 week. • Installed hardwood and final flooring. • Primer, painting and trim work completed: Over the course of three months. • Landscaping with rubber mulch: Within 1 week.

  10. Conclusion • I have learned that there is quite a bit more than I expected even from building a residential home. I have also learned about green techniques and just how much energy •  can be saved when using these techniques in building a home. Furthermore the discussion board for this activity was fairly helpful in seeing others viewpoints and opinions on • building a residence. I also learned about using constraints such as the 1.5 million dollar limit and the 4500 sq/ft limit.
