  2. Introduction • Music is important • Music is entertaining • Music is society • Music is culture • We enjoy music with our ears • But what about our eyes? • It is impractical to try and visually take in music

  3. Methods • Decided to make a quiz • Create the quiz • Get twenty people to take the quiz • Record their scores • Analyze the data • Draw a conclusion

  6. Results • Average was a little less than thirty points out of forty • Low was 24 • High was 35 • Most people already knew all of the songs on the quiz • A few had to hear a short clip from some of the songs prior to taking the quiz.

  8. Discussion • Based on the average score the average person can recognize music by ear • Not so much by eye • Some songs were somewhat obvious to look at • Guessing was a problem • Phony answers didn’t completely eliminate the problem

  9. Reading or Hearing? • Subjects hummed and compared • Is this still reading? • We read out loud when something is hard to understand • If that is reading, why can’t humming the song be?

  10. Future Works • Less “Guess-Friendly” • More difficult • More accurate results • Pure Entertainment • Subjects enjoyed quiz • Suggestion to post on the Internet
