  1. NPMA and Regional Update April 2010 NPMA Regional Vice Presidents

  2. National Update • Experienced Executive Board has been supplemented by three “new” Region VPs • Western Region - Brian Thompson, CPPM • Central Region – Mike Puryear, CPPM CF • Eastern Region – Jim Dieter, CPPM CF • For only the second time since it’s early days, the NPMA has had a two term President • Cheri Cross and the other Executive Board members have done a great job of steering us successfully through difficult economic times

  3. National Update • The NPMA Website • A very long story – too many problems, way too long of an implementation…. • Functionality continues to come online • Continuous improvement of website is a part of long term thinking • Apologies for inconveniences… • Excellent, stable NPMA National Office staff continues to be a great asset

  4. National Update • Education and Certification are core functions • Degree Programs • Masters next! • Improvements to Certification testing • Excellent seminars and course offerings • Future NPMA Task Force gathering input and sharing thoughts on longer term strategic direction of our association

  5. National Update • Fiscal Responsibility • Financial stability and viability a constant focus • National reserve funds that had prudently been set aside in the past, were partially used to weather the harsh economic times • The NPMA fared very well compared to many other associations • Rebuilding reserves is underway

  6. Central Region Update • Central Region Seminar April 15 – 16 in Austin, TX • Central Region Board meeting April 14 in Austin • Regional Elections at the Central Region Board Meeting in Myrtle Beach

  7. Western Region Update • In 2008 Dr. Goetz “Southern California Swing” was a brilliantly executed collaborative effort of the Antelope Valley, Los Angeles and San Diego Mission Chapters which provided a wonderful free educational opportunity for close to 300 of our members.  • In 2009 Dr. Chuck Waszczak visited the Northwest, Columbia Basin and Bay Area Chapters for another no-cost educational opportunity from another outstanding DAU lecturer.

  8. Eastern Region Update • Many successful seminars of all sizes • Sharing best practices through our new position – ER Director of Seminars and Programs • Reinvested ER financial resources in scholarships and chapter support funding • ER Director of Membership has worked closely with the National Executive VP of Membership to support members and to grow the association • ER focus remains on supporting chapters and members

  9. Regional Cooperation • Cooperation rather than competition between the regions • Focus on achievable actions • Support the Chapters • New/dormant chapters • Programming support • Support the Technical Interest Group (TIG) initiative

  10. Regional Cooperation • Seminar Task Force • WR VP Brian Thompson heads this Task Force • Goal – Excellent Events! • Initial recommendation on the agenda for the next Executive Board Meeting – more info forthcoming! • Maria Maggio also working on a Seminar Planning Guide

  11. Regional Cooperation • Foundation Application Process • A simplified, one step/one stop process for members • Goal – reinvest Foundation and other scholarship funding in the members of the association

  12. Regional Cooperation • Chapter Education (Monthly Content) • An initiative started in the ER to provide an excellent educational presentation in PowerPoint format, developed by a broad and talented cadre of NPMA subject matter experts, sufficient to provide content for every NPMA chapter meeting! • Lack of program content no longer a major concern for Chapter Presidents!

  13. Regional Cooperation • Support the Technical interest Group (TIG) initiative headed by the National Director of SIGs • Each Region sponsored two of the initial six SIGs • SIGs have a key emerging role in the expanding NPMA as providers of educational content and networking activities

  14. Closing Thoughts • National Educational Seminar (NES) 2010 in Myrtle Beach, SC • Not to be missed! • Election of National and Regional Leaders is underway • NPMA is 40 years old! • Chapters and Chapter meetings are at the heart of NPMA – education, networking, …and friends • It’s your association – the more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it!
