  1. Maglev Trains Period 1 Group #1

  2. WHAT IS A MAGLEV TRAIN? • Maglev trains, maglev short for magnetic-levitation, are transportation systems in which are suspended and guided above a track by a magnetic force. This design is built to efficiently transport people.

  3. HOW THEY WORK • Instead of engines, maglev trains use electromagnetism to levitate (raise) and propel these vehicles. Magnetic tracks are laid under the train, causing it to float barely above the ground. This is what helps it move so fast.

  4. HOW ARE THEY EFFICIENT? • One of the many reasons Maglev trains are efficient are because they • Use less energy • Transport its passengers to their desired destination faster

  5. WHERE THEY ARE USED • Due to its efficiency, these trains are already being used in countries and have been successfully tested in countries such as West Germany and Japan.

  6. HOW ARE THESE TRACKS BUILT? • The tracks for these trains are made of steel rails that have magnets wrapped beneath them. As the magnets pull upward, it creates a gap between the train and the tracks.

  7. AVG. AMOUNT OF PASSENGERS/ SPEEDS IT CAN TRAVEL • Maglev trains can travel at an average speed of 300 mph. • The average amount of people transported on a Maglev train is 50,000 people.

  8. COST/DISTANCE OF TRACK • The cost of the track per station is $10 million. • The total track distance is 81.94 miles of track. • The total cost of the track is $4,853,000,000
