  1. The Facts of Being Lost Luke 15:4-32

  2. Ephesians 2:1-3 • And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the bodyand the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

  3. Ephesians 2:12 • remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

  4. Matthew 25:30 • And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

  5. Matthew 25:41 • “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fireprepared for the devil and his angels

  6. Revelation 21:8 • But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

  7. Lk. 15- 3 Ways to be Lost, #1 • Like a sheep, • Wanders off, unintentional but in danger • Brought back by the efforts of others • Rejoicing at it being found

  8. Lk. 15- 3 Ways to be Lost, #2 • Like a coin • No fault of it’s own, but still lost! • Brought back by the careful effort of others • Rejoicing at its being found

  9. Lk. 15- 3 Ways to be Lost, #3 • Like a son • Through rebellion, v. 32, the same as being “dead” • WAS in the family, had the blessings, but wanted “freedom” • Brought back by coming to his senses, humility • Rejoicing at his return

  10. What Facts Are Here To Observe? • Sometimes it’s not our fault, still lost.

  11. 2 Thessalonians 1:6-8 • since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels 8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

  12. Romans 1:19-20 • For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

  13. Matthew 7:7-8 • “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.

  14. What Facts Are Here To Observe? • Sometimes it’s not our fault, still lost. • Sometimes the efforts of others can bring us back…sometimes we must come to our own senses and be humbled.

  15. Jude 22-23 • And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

  16. What Facts Are Here To Observe? • Sometimes it’s not our fault, still lost. • Sometimes the efforts of others can bring us back…sometimes we must come to our own senses and be humbled. • One can be lost even though he was saved at one time.

  17. Hebrews 6:4-6 • For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.

  18. Hebrews 2:1-3a • Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. 2 For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?

  19. What Facts Are Here To Observe? • Sometimes it’s not our fault, still lost. • Sometimes the efforts of others can bring us back…sometimes we must come to our own senses and be humbled. • One can be lost even though he was saved at one time. • When a soul is rescued it is always a time for rejoicing.

  20. James 5:19-20 • My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

  21. What is the Point? For ourselves? • Come to Christ and come out of a lost condition • Beware the danger of turning back to the world (make use of the tools that we are given such as study, prayer, worship, love, giving, encouragement, uplifting, etc.) For others? • Don’t be passive while others are LOST.

  22. Galatians 6:9 • And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
