  1. Raiders of the Lost Ark Gunnar Thorngren

  2. Plot Structure • Plot 1 Is when we meet Jones for the first time when he is looking for this artifact. He finds it but then he encounters one of the bad guys and he takes the artifact from Jones. As the movie goes on Jones is called into the gym to talk to some men from the government. They talk about the Ark of the Covent and ask Jones if he can find it before the Nazi’s do. Know we now that Jones must find the Ark before the Nazi’s do. • Plot 2 Rising Action: Is the were the character has to jump over these postictal. For example Jones has to save Marion many times from the Nazi’s. • Plot 3 Climax: Is when the Nazi’s open up the Ark • Plot 4 Ending: They give the Ark to the government and he says, “they don’t know what they have.” He doesn’t get the Ark but he gets the girl. They don’t really give us a hint that there will be a another movie.

  3. Transitions • Set Up: Indiana Jones starts in the jungle searching for an ancient gold artifact, which allows us to understand his archeological career and traits. Later, we meet Marion in her bar when suddenly, after Indiana walks in to tell her to help him look for the Ark, the Nazi’s come.

  4. Transition • Complicating action : Is when Indy finds the Ark. At this point, many are looking for the Ark at this point and Marion is also being held captive. This sets up a lot of action because Indy must save her and escape with the Ark.

  5. Transition • Development/climax/resolution: Indy and Marion get captured and tied together. The Nazis attempt to open the Ark, but they are overcome by its power and end up dying. Even though Indy and Marion are in the same room, they don’t die which tells us Indy achieved his goals– he found the Ark and got his girl.

  6. Dangling Cause • When the German man’s hand gets burned by the medallion in the beginning of the movie, it leads to the Nazis having one side of the medallion because it is now burned into the German guy’s hand.

  7. Dangling Cause • Indiana Jones really hates snakes. So when Indiana and Marion get in the chamber with the Ark, there are tons of snakes everywhere.

  8. Dangling Cause • Indiana was worried that the Ark may not be for human eyes. When the Nazis get to the Ark and open it, bad things start to happen. The ones who had seen it were gone, but Indiana and Marion were still there because Indiana knew it was not safe for human eyes so he told Marion to close her eyes and not look at it. He did the same thing.

  9. Motif • The color red is a motif in this movie. For the most part, the background and clothes are rather dull with lots of browns, tans, etc. So, when the color red pops up, your eyes are drawn to it and you notice the red thing as opposed to anything else going on for that brief moment. • Indiana Jones’s theme music is another motif. Every time Indiana is on screen, his little musical theme is playing in the background, whether it’s slowed down, or sped up to fit the mood of the scene.

  10. Motif • The theme music for the Ark is a good motif. Whenever a character was talking about the Ark or the Ark showed up on screen, there was a unique musical theme going on in the background that was for the Ark.
