  4. Project Definition • Internet technologies are not designed with blind users in mind • Improving the accessibility of the Internet for the blind utilizing existing technologies

  5. Design Challenges • Interface • Limited Access to Technology • Integration of Systems

  6. Interface • Providing information on mouse location • Providing information on page layout • Providing ability to scroll through pages • Displaying page content • Accepting input from user

  7. Limited Access to Technology • No access to Touch Screens • Unable to find good Speech to Text software

  8. Integration of Systems • Java Audio Class • have limitations and are not compatible with all browser types • Text to speech software • poor audio quality and incompatible with java and certain browsers

  9. High-level Design Layout • Navigation of individual screen is through a touch screen interface • User inputs via Speech to Text software and keyboard entry • Pages content read out using Text to Speech software

  10. High-level Design Layout • Play audible message on mouse over to provide feedback • Verbally identify key web components • Forms • Links • Images • etc

  13. Recommendations • New browser with audio messages and utilizing our plug in • convert pages on download to Blind enabled • loads new page for interaction • Use of Braille pad as a form of output • Customizing output speech
