  1. Welcome to 5th Grade Mrs. Faulkner’s Science And Social Studies Blue Team

  2. Parents, be sure to: • Get your parent portal password from the office if you do not already have one. • Please send in all registration forms and fees by Friday. • Please be sure to sign up for updates through email, this is our main form of communication with you.

  3. New policies: • Backpacks must be kept in lockers once you are at school. • You may only bring sling packs into your classrooms. • Our test schedule applies to tests only: • Wednesday-Science • Thursday- Social Studies • Friday- Reading and Math

  4. Snack Time: 9:30 • This is the beginning of the 4thperiod time. Students must have their snack with them when they enter class. They will eat as they begin bell work in class. • Getting a snack from the vending machine may make students late for class if they are standing in line, but will still result in a check mark for tardiness. It is best to purchase a snack first thing in the morning or bring one from home. • If students eat something that is hot like Flamin’ Cheetos, they need to already have a drink with them. They will not be allowed to leave class to get water for this knowing they are spicy item. We suggest not eating these without a drink. • No snacks with peanut products in it. We have children with severe allergies.

  5. Discipline • Students are made aware of all rules and procedures. • Breaking rules result in check marks. • Each check mark combines from each teacher to give the student a total number of check marks. • You will be notified of your child’s check marks on the 2nd one.

  6. Fun Friday • Students that do not have a total of 2 check marks will receive fun Friday every 3 weeks. • Students that have 2 or more check marks with go to detention instead.

  7. Cell Phones and Electronic Devices • Student may bring them to school and class. • Students may not use them unless the teacher tells them to get them out and use it for educational purposes. • If devices are misused, they will be taken up and turned into the office for a parent to pick up.

  8. Science Class • Students may only retake tests. • Students will have two days to make up work after being absent. • Expect about one unit quiz a week and a Sci-bites quiz each Tuesday. • Students will take notes and use those notes to study for quizzes and tests. They will have study guides for tests.

  9. Reading/ Language Arts, Mrs. H. Brown (Mrs. Faulkner’s Homeroom) • Students will have a Tuesday folder sent home to be signed by the parent each week and returned. • Expect weekly vocabulary quiz. Vocabulary words will go home on Mondays.

  10. School Dress Code • Shorts- to finger tips • Skirts- 3 inches above knee • No hats or caps • No trench coats or large and bulky clothes • No earrings unless you are a girl and they are in your ears. • No tank tops or spaghetti strap shirts without a shirt over it • No holes in pants above the knee • When you raise you hands up, we should not be able to see your belly.

  11. Attendance Excused Absences • 1. Maximum of 5 parent notes a year • 2. Doctor’s notes • 3. Death of immediate family member • Students with 5 unexcused absences will be reported to the truancy board. • Every 3rd tardy = 1 unexcused absence • After school detention will be assigned to anyone with 3 tardies. (Thursday at 4:00PM)

  12. Starting and Dismissal Times • Dismissal from morning gym-7:30 • First Bell: 7:40 • Late Bell: 7:45 ( must be in your classroom) • Early Bus and Car Riders: 2:45 • Late Bus: 2:50

  15. Fees for 5th grade • $3.00 Lock rental • $6.00 Planner fee • $10.00 Social Studies Fee • $10.00 Science Fee • Total: $29.00 • Write checks to MMS and turn in to homeroom teacher
