Things You Should Have • Math book • Assignment notebook • Ruler • Manillafoler • Manilla envelope • Fall student contact (white) • Letter from principal (white) • PKC (white) • Free/Reduced Lunch (white) • First day Packet (peach) • Lunch form (green) • Menu (yellow) • 3 pencils (various colors) • Rdg workbook • Random colored folder for take home papers

  3. Lunch Form • Please write your name and lunch code if you know it. • If you don’t know it, leave it blank and I will fill it out.

  4. Big Index Card • Fold index card in half • Write first name • In upper right hand corner write your age in years and months • In lower right hand corner write your favorite food • In upper left hand corner write your favorite subject • In lower left hand corner write how many siblings you have

  5. Labeling Folders/Notebooks • Using a Sharpie write your name (first and last), subject, and homeroom teacher in the upper right hand corner of the folders • Language Arts – Yellow • Math – Red • Science – Blue • Social Studies – Green

  6. Labeling • Please take the time to label your pencils, pens, markers, etc… with the permanent marker if you would like to do so. • I will not solve arguments of pencil stealing. If your name/initials are on it then there will be no question of who they belong to.

  8. My Childhood • I was born in Philadelphia. • I was adopted at birth. • I moved to Ohio in first grade. • I went to High School at Tri-Village.

  9. Education • I went to Tri-Village for 1st through 12th grade • I graduated high school in 2001 • I went to Miami University and graduated in 2005.

  12. My Mom • My mom works at a university as a nursing professor. • She also runs a weight management program for kids. • She loves going to the beach and visiting family.

  28. Interest Survey • Each of you have a survey to fill out. • Answer each question • Make sure to use complete sentences where necessary

  29. Personal Poster • You will need markers, crayons, or colored pencils for this activity • Put your name in the center of the paper like this:

  37. Confidential forms • Put some thought into the questions “Who would you like to sit by” and “Who would you not like to sit by” • Remember to support your decision with evidence such as “we work really well together” or “we do not get along” etc…

  38. 5th Grade Math

  39. Materials • Pencils • Notebook • Paper • Folder • Eraser • Textbook • Ability to work in a group!

  40. Math Class • As soon as you come in you will answer the question posted on the board in your math journal/notebook. • You will not need to write the question down, just the answer and how you solved the question. • These will not be collected every day but will be checked sporadically for a grade.

  41. Textbooks • Write your name on the inside cover of the math text book. • Tell me what number your text book is • Think of your math book as a reference tool.

  42. Pencils • Make sure you have a pencil each and every day in math class. • Pencils must be sharpened before class starts or when given time to work on independent/group work. • If you need to borrow one, do so just return it afterwards (will be 1 point for forgotten materials). • Only complete work in pencil unless told otherwise

  43. Group Work • In order to make math more fun and exciting we will be working cooperatively with partners and small groups. • If this becomes a problem we will have to sit in rows and do work independently (which means no talking!)

  44. Homework • During the week there will be homework assigned, but it won’t be much! • If it takes you more than 30 minutes to do the homework then you need to see me for additional help.

  46. Daily Math Question • The table shows the number of cans of paint Joe used to paint benches. How many benches can he paint with 8 cans of paint? Use pictures, words, or numbers to explain how you found the number of benches.

  47. Manilla Folders • These will be kept at school in a bin to keep important papers. • Label the tab with your name and number. For example: • Miss Folkerth FO-50 • Mrs. Hampton H-50 • Mr. Flatter FL-50

  48. Journal – Math Biography • In your red notebook you will take 10 minutes to write your math biography. Tell me things you remember, what you are good at, what you are bad at, when you started to like/dislike math, etc…. • Place these inside your manilla folder and turn in.

  49. Problem Solving • You will need a loose leaf piece of paper. • Put the date at the top and write SELF. Below this begin brainstorming ways that you have/could problem solve. You can write about a problem you have solved outside of school or something related to school.

  50. Final Activity • List 5 Academic Goals for 5th Grade • List 2 Behavior Goals
