  2. What is a podcast? A podcast is a media file that is distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds (RSS) for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcast) • Similar to a Radio Broadcast - posted on the Internet – World Wide access • Listen to a podcast on a computer or download to .mp3 player (mobile) • Audio (.mp3) or with photos (.mp4) • Podcasting shares information

Why podcast? • Communication • Collaboration - Share ideas and learning • Differentiated Instruction • Motivational • Stimulating Learning Process • Develops Writing, Editing, Presentation, and Public Speaking Skills • Develops Thinking Skills • Media Literacy • It’s Fun! • It can inspire students to take extra effort in learning – “real audience” • It’s Web 2.0 !

Educational uses of a Podcast • Teachers - Provide supplementary instruction • Skills practice - Foreign Language/Speech/Music • Facts for upcoming tests • Introduction to units of study • Summary of material • Collaboration/Distance Learning • Grade levels • Podcast relating to a major unit of study (All About SC, Revolutionary War in SC, The Solar System, etc.) • Students • Feature work they have written for “real audience” (Poems, Short Stories, etc....) • Provide narrated audio tours – School, Staff, Wetlands/ABC Garden, etc. • Summary of Classroom News – Field Trips • Our Community • School News • Interviews with community folks
