  2. Twitter Twitter is an online social networking serviceandmicro blogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets". Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey Over 500 million registered users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day Twitter has become one of the ten most visited websites on the Internet

  3. Jack Dorsey Twitter has been his life's work in many senses. It started with a fascination with cities and how they work, and what’s going on in them right now. That led Dorsey to the only thing that was tractable in discovering that, which was bicycle messengers and truck couriers roaming about, delivering packages. That allowed Dorsey to create this visualization -- to create software that allowed him to see how this was all moving in a city. Then they started adding in the next element, which are taxi cabs. Now they have another entity roaming about the metropolis, reporting where it is and what work it has, going over GPS and CB radio or cellphone. And then you get to the emergency services: ambulances, fire trucks and police -- and suddenly you have this very rich sense of what’s happening right now in the city. But it’s missing the public. It's missing normal people. And that’s where Twitter came in

  4. Twitter Interesting Facts Twitter is the 9th most popular site in the world according to web information company Alexa and an incredible 12,233 tweets per second was registered during Superbowl 2012 - the most ever recorded. Back in 2006 Dorsey, only had 5 employees helping him with the twitter project Jack Dorsey is a businessman and software architect most famous for co-founding Twitter who has a net worth of $1 billion.
