  3. Click the picture below to watch a video about the Iditarod race. You will need your headphones.

  4. Checkpoint #1: For your first task, you will click on the picture below and read 4 sections of information: • The Last Great Race on Earth • The Spirit of Alaska! More Than a Race… a Commemoration • An Event for All Alaska • On the Trail • After you have read them, you must answer the questions on your worksheet. Click on the picture below to begin.

Good job – Keep mushing!Checkpoint #2: Click on the picture to be taken to a website where you will read 3 more sections of information about the Iditarod race: • What does Iditarod Mean? • Iditarod Facts • How does Iditarod keep Track of the Dogs? After you have read them, you must answer the questions on your worksheet. Click on the picture to begin.

  7. Checkpoint #3: • At Checkpoint #3 you will be exploring some of the places along the Iditarod trail. There are 25checkpoints from Anchorage to Nome. To learn about the checkpoints mentioned in Akiak you will be using an interactive map. • If you point to theNAME OF A CHECKPOINT, you will be given information about that place. • If you point to aplace on the purple line (in between dots) you will be given information about the land IN BETWEEN checkpoints. • Once you click the compass to get to the right webpage, you will need to look at your worksheet and follow the directions.

  8. Almost there!Checkpoint #4: • When you click on the picture below you will be taken to a chart containing more information about the checkpoints on the Iditarod trail. Use the chart to answer the questions on your worksheet. • Click on the trail to begin.

  9. YOU MADE IT!Checkpoint #4: • Take a break and relax after all your hard mushing. • On the next 3 slides click the square to watch an Iditarod video or hear the Iditarod Trail Song! • You will need your headphones.
