Do you wear a uniform, etc.? • Are there tools or equipment required? If so, what are they? • What type of experience do you need? • Are computer skills required?

  7. Body Paragraph 4: CAREER EVALUATION(STAY IN 3RD PERSON) Evaluate your researched information and address your thesis statement. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages. In other words, what are the pros and cons of your career choice? • Why is this career a good choice for you? • Does it offer the salary and benefits you desire? • Do you like its location? • What is the size of the company or number of people with the same type of job? • Do other members of your family or do any of your friends or family have this occupation? • What are the drawbacks of this career?

  8. Reflection: You may use 1st person (I, me) when writing your reflection. Reflect back on your research experience and answer the following questions in your response. • What was the research process like for you? • What was the approach you took when gathering your information and conducting your research? • What did you learn from the research process? • How did your perception (view) of the career change as you researched it and is it something you still plan on pursuing now that you have researched it? Explain.

INTERNALCITATIONS You can...but ALL INFORMATION MUST BE CITED WHETHER YOU paraphrase it, put it your own words, or use direct quotes. • Place internal citations in your essay as you write; DO NOT wait until the essay is finished—it will be MUCH HARDER to look up the information later. You MUST use a new internal citation: • When you change sources • When you have a direct quote • When you change paragraphs • When you change page numbers of the same source. • AN INTERNAL CITATION IS THE FIRST WORD OF THE BIBLIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION AT THE TOP OF YOUR NOTES PAGE (WRITTEN AS IS – UNDERLINED, IN QUOTES, ETC) AND THE PAGE/PARAGRAPH # (Jones 24). • It is placed INSIDE PARENTHESIS at the end of the sentence/paragraph containing the information. The period goes outside the parenthesis at the end of the sentence (“Dentistry” 25).

What It Takes to Become a Teacher Becoming a teacher requires a degree with an academic major and completion of a teacher education program. “Sixty-nine colleges and universities in Texas offer teacher education programs for undergraduate students” (Barry 23). Most of these colleges and universities as well as several Regional Education Service Centers and a few school districts also offer teacher certification programs for people who already have a degree (Barry 40). After deciding to be a teacher, a first important step is to decide what age group of children to teach. In Texas, four different certification levels are available. Teachers of students in grades early childhood to fourth are usually “responsible for all children and all subjects” (“Teachers” 67). The two certificates available at this level are the Generalist and the Bilingual Generalist (Goldberg 120). “At Texas State, the degree used to obtain this certificate is the Bachelor of Science degree with a Major in Interdisciplinary Studies” (Goldberg 121). Teachers of students in grades sixth through eighth, usually called middle schools or junior high schools, may choose to be “broadly educated in order to teach self-contained classes at the lower grades in the range, or they may elect to specialize in one or two teaching areas” (U.S. Department of Labor. “Teachers” p 4). The certificates available at this level are: Generalist, English Language Arts/Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, and Mathematics/Science (U.S. Department of Labor. Occupational p 2). As with the EC-4 certificate, the degree used to obtain one of these certificates is the Bachelor of Science degree with a Major in Interdisciplinary Studies (KuderEducation).
