Premier Waste Recycling Ltd • The Martin Group has invested heavily in Premier Waste Recycling. • PWR offers a wide range of services to the commercial sector. • Large fleet of vehicles, including rolonoff container lorries, 7.5-tonne and 3.5-tonne lorries and RCV-type collection lorries • A large volume of containers used and stocked, from boxes and small wheeled bins up to skips and 40-yard containers • The infrastructure of the Martin Group

  11. University of Leeds We collect an average of 6.5 tonnes of waste materials from the university every day. None of this material goes to landfill.

  13. University of Leeds • Separation of Mixed General Waste takes place at Leeds “Super MRF”. • Materials extracted include: • Mixed packaging • Plastics • Wood • Metals • Glass • Food • The remainder is turned into SRF (solid recovered fuel)

University of Leeds Separately collected materials and their destinations Cardboard Baled in Leeds and shipped to UK or European mills Paper Baled in Leeds and shipped to UK mills Plastics Sorted in Leeds and either washed and flaked or baled and shipped to Lincolnshire Glass Sorted and processed in South Yorkshire Food waste Composted in West Yorkshire Cans Baled in Leeds and reprocessed in UK steel plants

University of Leeds WEEE materials and their destinations Batteries To UK based re-processer where the lead is re-used in the manufacture of new batteries Fluorescent tubes To UK based re-processor where glass is recovered and re-used as loft insulation, end caps go to steel making, mercury phosphor powder is distilled and used to produce mercury Toners Either re-filled or the plastic casings are granulated and washed before being reprocessed into new plastics

University of Leeds WEEE materials and their destinations SDA (Small Domestic Appliances) Stripped down and all plastic is granulated, non-ferrous and ferrous metals are separated and recycled LDA (Large Domestic Appliances) Stripped down and all plastic is granulated, non-ferrous and ferrous metals are separated and recycled Hazardous WEEE (mainly fridges and monitors) De-gassed and made safe before being stripped down and re-processed as above
