  1. CHAPTER 4 Contact Information

  2. Key Contact Information An employer needs the following information to contact you for an interview: • Name • Credentials, job title, degree (optional) • Address • Phone number(s) • Social media link • Web-page hyperlink Chapter 4

  3. Your Name • Use your full name—first and last. • Do not add nicknames or titles unless you use them professionally. • Example: John Jones III • Use capital letters, boldface type, or a larger font size to make your name stand out. • Disambiguate your name. • If your name could be feminine or masculine, add Ms. or Mr. for clarity. Chapter 4

  4. Credentials, Job Title, Degree (optional) • Add an impressive degree or credential. • Jason Williams, M.D. or Susan Strauss, Ph.d. • Add your job title if you are seeking a similar job. • Joel Green, Registered Nurse • Have different versions of your resume. • Applying in your field? • Display your credentials or job title prominently. • Transferring to another job area? • Omit your present job title. Chapter 4

  5. Address • Use a permanent address. • Spell out everything; do not use abbreviations. • Example: Street instead of St. • Exception: two-letter state abbreviations. • Put city, state, and zip code on one line. • Example: New York, NY 10022 • Put a comma between the city and state. • Double-check the zip code. Chapter 4

  6. Phone Number(s) Use your area code. List a daytime phone number. List your cell phone number (if you are the only one who has access to it.) If possible, limit phone numbers to two: cell phone and home phone. For each number listed, have a reliable voicemail that you check regularly. Chapter 4

  7. E-Mail Address • Use an e-mail address that sounds professional. • Use lowercase and a smaller point size than the rest of your contact information. • Double-check the spelling. • A typo may prevent an employer from contacting you and could result in losing the interview. • Consider setting up a separate e-mail address dedicated to your job search. • Never use your current work e-mail address. Chapter 4

  8. Website/Social Media Links • Consider including a link to your website. • Should be dedicated to your job search. • Consider posting your resume on a professional media site such as LinkedIn. • Add the URL to your contact information. • Make sure your website and profile are appropriate for a wide audience. • Consider furnishing website information in a cover letter rather then on the resume.
