  1. MLA internal Citations Learn the basics so that you can cite like a pro!

  2. A brief caveat about online citations Since you are able to find such a wide variety of material on the Web, it is difficult to summarize guidelines for these sources. MLA recommends printing or downloading the Web sources you use in a research paper, in case they are no longer available later, but they no longer recommend including the URL as part of a citation, unless it would be too difficult for the reader to locate the source without it or if you are required by your instructor to include it. http://www2.yk.psu.edu/learncenter/mla-july-09.pdf

  3. Think of this as a brief introduction for something that you will be using a LOT in your academic career!

  4. Also? The rules change. A LOT.

  5. Getting started… • In a moment, you are going to be given a QR code to bring you to Purdue Online Writing Lab website (OWL). • Please spend some time carefully and critically reading over and evaluating the criteria. • Make sure to see how different sources are cited, based on different circumstances. And there are quite a few. • For the sake of ease and clarity, your teacher will provide you with a few tips. • Create an entry in your Tri 3 Daily File for today’s date, • AFTER you spend some considerable time looking over the information (and it is a LOT), you will complete the exercises on the slide following the QR code.

  7. Application Internal Citations should go in Google Drive; source citations should go in a PRACTICE project for easybib.com. • Pick a direct quote (any quote) from Rikki-tikki-tavi(page 14 in yellow textbook). Write the appropriate internal citation AND add an appropriate citation into your practice bibliography with easybib.com. • Grab Giverbook from the desk up front. Write down any direct phrase (that is not a quote) on page 36. Add the appropriate works cited source to your easybib.com practice bibliography. • Look at one of the articles that we’ve recently read in class. Pick a quote/statement from the article that supports your opinion for the article. Create the appropriate internal citation. Add the works cited source to your easybib.com bibliography. • Repeat the same direction as #3 for a different article.

  8. For the sake of clarity and ease… • Internal Citation requirements: • For books and online PDF’s/articles w/page #’s/etc., please follow this format: (Author Page #) • If it is a website without page numbers, please cite the name of the website like this: (Purdue Online Writing Lab) • Bibliography/Works Cited page requirements: Please continue to use easybib.com or NoodleTools.
