  2. What does MLA stand for? • A group of scholars that make rules and guidelines for professional writing

  3. Why do we use it? • It makes your research paper look professional • It helps you to avoid plagiarism • Using another author’s words and claiming them as your own by not citing them in your paper • Organizes your writing process • Prepares you for the future

  4. What does the first page look like? • 12 point size font • Times New Roman font • 1” margins all around • Page numbers on all pages: • Line 1: Name • Line 2: Teacher Name • Line 3: Subject • Line 4: Period # • Line 5: Date • Title is centered • ½” indent before paragraph

  5. What does the last page look like? • The “Works Cited” page is the last page • Alphabetical list of sources

  6. Book citation • Last name, First name. Title. City: Publishing Company, Year. Pages. • Example: • Kobasa, Paul . Warfare. Chicago: World Book Inc., 2009. 6-7.

  7. Newspaper article • Last name, First name. “Article Title.” Newspaper Name Day Month year: section or page. • Example: • Borenstein, Seth. “Nation Says Goodbye To Moonwalker Neil Armstrong.” Associated Press 13 September 2012: science.
