  1. The 4th ADC meeting May 14th, 2007 For understanding the earth- Concept and System to integrate Global Earth Observation data - National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan

  2. What is the GEO Grid ? • The GEO (Global Earth Observation) Grid is an E-Infrastructure to accelerate GEO sciences based on the concept that whole data related to earth observation are virtually integrated with a certain access management and easy to handle by the end- users those are enabled by a set of Grid and Web service technologies. AIST: OGF Gold sponsor (a founding member) AIST: OGC Associate member (since 2007) Satellite Data Grid Technologies Geology Map Geo* Contents Applications Environment Resources GIS data Disaster management Field data

  3. GEO Grid Full L0 ASTER on disk Contents Satellite Imagery MODIS on disk (East Asia) Geology archives Japan, SE Asia AsiaFlux, Field server Sensors Security, Resource management, Job, data/storage, information, WSRF/-N Software Basic service Web GIS, Workflow, U/I Portal Web service Support S/W packaging GEO Grid full/light VO support User account, Operation support, Cap building

  4. A Workflow example “Disaster prevention and mitigation (Volcano)” Monitoring of crustal deformation by PALSAR In-situ observations by CCOP members Hazard Map for Evacuation planning GEO ASTER Simulation of lava and/or pyroclastic flow on GEO Grid High resolution DEM provided from ASTER

  5. 火砕流 メラピ山オルソ パラメータ設定

  6. 火砕流 メラピ山オルソ 処理結果

  7. AIST GEO Grid Architecture (IT Infrastructure) Applications Disaster prevention Ecology Agriculture Geology Visualization service VO management Std Web Service I/F incl. basic grid service i GEON Interoperable Tiled Wall Display GML/G-XML/OGC VO hosting services Data Grid Field Sensors Computing Grid GSJ data USGS data GIS data gfarm Application hosting engine Base Map PALSAR Overlayable GIS data ASTER MODIS Tsukuba (Japan) ASTER & MODIS Geometric, Radiometric &Atmospheric Correction Mosaic & Composite, Image Processing PALSAR DSM/DEM AIT(Thailand) MAP on Demand 210TB /P4 3.5TB(raid5)/node x 60C AIST Supercluster (11TFlops) AIST MODIS NASA(USA) L0 or L1 PALSAR ASTER L1A data will not be in public HATOYAMA (Japan)

  8. Current Status of GEO Grid • Contents • Whole imagery of ASTER to date (Apr. 07) • MODIS (Japan & Thailand) • Geology Maps in WMS (by GSJ, AIST) • Services • ASTER scene search, DEM on demand (proto) • Typical Applications incl. Volcano, Env. Monitoring • IT System • H/W (storage & CPU) are ready! • Redesigning • support Virtual Organization with certain security level • tools to implement data owner’s policy • Data federation with AuthZ • WMS/WFS/WCS work with GSI • GEOSS • Proposed in TF2 as one of the Early Achievement for GEO Summit • Global DEM, GEO Web portal

  9. FOUR categories of Data Access Attribute Many ALL Cat. 2 Open to Many (Common) Cat. 1 Open to All (Public) OPEN Cat. 4 Close to All (Private) Cat. 3 Close to Many (Project) CLOSE

  10. You might need to have like this Virtual Organization (VO) enabled by GRID local Private In-Situ Cat 3 Project/Community (White-list control) PEN Cluster Cat 2 Domain Common (Black-list control) ASTER Internet Cat. 1 Public
