  1. Objectives • to improve • citizens’ awareness and comfort • industrial competitiveness • efficiency of public administrations • by enhancing and supporting the use, access and management of geo-information • to contribute to the initiative, in particular • government on-line • citizen environmental awareness • intelligent transport systems

  2. Targeted domains Tourism, entertainment Transport, mobility Intelligent publishing and delivery mechanisms E-Map e-work, e-commerce Meteorology, environment Statistics

  3. Expected activities: GIS Development and validation of GI technologiese.g.: dynamic environments, interactive 3D/4D applications, augmented reality environments

  4. GI Services for Environmental Monitoring and Management Expected activities: GIS Data gathering Information Output Geo-Information Management System supporting decision making

  5. Expected activities: GIS development of engineering techniques for designing and providing generic spatial data services and s/w components based on standardised interfaces that can be reused and integrated in future (thematic) applications and other (usage) contexts (e.g.: location based services, m-commerce, …)

  6. Location-based services Focus: Design, develop and demonstrate location-based and/or mobile services…... …. for context-based information management, retrieval publishing and delivery in a variety of thematic applications

  7. Location-based services Fixed and wireless network technologies Rich multi-media content Location-based and mobile services use GI and related reference data integrating... Advanced sensors Global positioning systems Large database technologies and intelligent agents Earth observation systems

  8. New Business Models Focus: Experiment with new business models.... Stockholm Brussels …. for the production, distribution and usage of spatial data in mass market applications

  9. Standards Improvement of GI accessibility, usability, and exploitability: • metadata interoperablity • standards • semantic and ontological compatibility

  11. Types of action: RTD • Research and technological development (R&D) projectsto obtain new knowledge intended to develop or improve products, processes or services and/or to meet the needs of Community policies • Demonstration projectsto prove the viability of new technologies offering potential economic advantage but which cannot be commercialised directly • Combined R&D and Demonstration projects

  12. Types of action: supporting activities • Thematic Networksfor bringing together manufacturers, users, universities, research centres around a given Science and Technology objective, including co-ordination networks between Community funded projects • Concerted actionsActions co-ordinating RTD projects already in receipt of national funding, for example to exchange experiences, to reach a critical mass, to disseminate results, etc. • Accompanying MeasuresActions contributing to the implementation of a Specific Programme or the preparation of future activities of the Programme, also seeking to prepare for or to support other indirect RTD actions
