Note: To move from one page to another in QuickStats, simply click on the tabs shown above

  25. Home Page • Each time a user enters QuickStats, the first page that appears is the announcements page. • Find information about new offerings including data series and preset tables, changes to our current offering, modifications made to QuickStatsfunctionality, special messages about a certain data release and any technical difficulties that arise on this page.

  27. Help Page The data series help documents available for download from the QuickStatsHelp section include: 1. Mnemonic Compendium – An alphabetical listing of every series available that contains the series code, the frequency and a description. The alphabetical ordering allows users to see similar data grouped at the broadest level. 2.Listing of Data– Includes a listing of each series available in QuickStats organized by data group and geography. Details for each series are also available and include frequency, metric, adjustment, source, geographic area and start date. Starting with a table of contents to help users find data easier, this document also contains specific details about the conventions used to generate mnemonics and some special definitions and notes about certain series. (See next slide for examples) Note: Users who find a series they wish to access from either document above, can go into QuickStats, type the mnemonic directly into the Custom Datasets Search by Mnemonic feature and download the series.

  28. Samples from the “Listing of Data”

  29. Help Page • Also available is the Listing of Tables . This help document includes a listing of all tables and charts available in QuickStatsorganized by geography and table topic. Tables and charts are also categorized into special groupings. Tables and charts can be listed under more than one geography depending on the contents of each table and chart.(See next page for examples) • Using the ID number, users can go directly into the Tables & Charts feature in QuickStats, locate the geographic category it falls under (or All Tables) and download it. Also, tables can be downloaded directly from the Listing of Tables by clicking on the table number and name which are links to each table file. • This tutorial is also available for download on the Help page in QuickStats.

  30. Samples from the “Listing of Tables”

  31. Help Page Click these buttons to access the help documents previously explained

  32. Help Page Another part of the Help page allows users to submit questions directly to the ICSC Research Department about the data offering. Just enter a name, email address and a detailed question then click the Submit Requestbutton.

  33. Custom Datasets Custom Datasets allows users to download any of the data series available into a spreadsheet for analysis. As shown below, downloading a series can be completed in three steps: search, select and download.

  34. Custom Datasets - Search • Search for data two ways: by documentation and by mnemonic. • By documentation allows users to search the database using a series of drop-down boxes beginning with geography followed by metric, frequency and type of adjustment. • By mnemonic allows users to type in the mnemonics without having to go through the drop-down search.

  35. Custom Datasets - Search • In Search by Documentation… • Both the geography and metric drop-down boxes will open up into additional drop-down boxes depending on the selection made at each level to help narrow down the search. • To make a selection, simply click on the name of the category and continue until no other options are available. • Users are able to hit Search at any point to see the results of their selections. The earlier they do however, the more broad the search and more matches they will have to sort through to find the data, or there will be more results than can be displayed. • Users can also hit Reset to clear the selections made on the search page.

  36. Custom Datasets - Search In this example, 2 geographic regions were chosen. The primary level was United States and the secondary level was National. Furthermore, 3 metric levels were chosen. The initial selection was shopping-center count, the secondary level was By Type, and the third level, Super Regional Mall, was the final metric selection for this search. Finally, the data frequency is Annual and the type of adjustment is No Adjustment. There are no additional drop-down boxes for these categories.

  37. Custom Datasets - Search In Search by Mnemonic… Specific mnemonics for series identified in the help documents are entered directly into QuickStatsand appear without having to make selections from the drop-down boxes. Enter either one mnemonic or multiple mnemonics. Hit Search to get the results. Multiple mnemonic entries must be separated by a comma and space when using this feature.

  38. Custom Datasets - Select • Once the search is complete, results matching the criteria from Search by Documentation or those matching the mnemonics entered in Search by Mnemonic will appear in the second column titled Select. Each matched series will have a description below the mnemonic. • To download a series, users must make sure a check is placed in box to the left of the mnemonic or remove a check if they do not want to download a series. • Once users make their selections, click the Add to Cart button.

  39. Custom Datasets - Select Check mark indicates the series will be added to the download cart. Series description Click to add the checked series to the download cart.

  40. Custom Datasets - Download • After the search and select are completed, users can download the data. Data can be downloaded in an Excel spreadsheet or CSV format. • For searches that contain series with the same frequency, both Excel and CSV will place all series in the same tab.

  41. Custom Datasets - Download • For searches containing series with different frequencies, Excel only, will place each frequency in a different tab. CSV will not allow users to download a set of series with different frequencies because it does not populate multiple tabs. If this happens, download only the series with the same frequency at one time and repeat for each frequency. • After the format is chosen, select the data layout and click • Download Cart.

  42. Custom Datasets - Download Select download format by clicking either Excel or CSV. Choose the data arrangement by clicking either box. Click to manage the cartand see series currently in the cart that will download. Users can also delete individual series, clear the entire cart and add series from other downloads completed in the same login session. Click to download all the series in the current cart in the format chosen.

  43. Custom Datasets – Excel Output These 7 rows of each output gives the important information about the series downloaded. There may or may not be a comment included for a series. This section of information shows the geographic levels and metric levels associated with each series. Depending on the series, more or less levels may appear. Series mnemonic Series data. Column A always has the date associated with the data. The two tabs, year and month, indicate that the series downloaded have different frequencies. Excel only separates each frequency into different tabs. Click on the tab to access the worksheet.

  44. Tables & Charts • Major table types include shopping-center statistics, shopping-center executive survey, country fact sheets, sales, sales productivity, mall store analytics, impact studies and other analytics. • All preset tables categorized by geography and some into special groupings. • Some tables are customizable and users are able to change display dates and select the type of data displayed in tables and/or charts.

  45. Tables & Charts • Tables and charts, which are continually updated along with the data, always contain the latest figures available. Tables and charts automatically adjust to portray the current statistics as well. • All underlying data in most tables and charts are the same as what is available for download; however, they may be presented in a different form (not available as series for download) that clearly illustrates the trends and is better suited for analytical research.

  46. Tables & Charts - Search To view all tables in a particular category, click in the small circle to the left of the specific geographic area or special grouping.

  47. Tables & Charts - Search Once users select a category, all tables within that group will appear to the right. Each table contains an ID number and descriptive title. To download a table, click within the title box and proceed to open the Excel file.

  48. Tables & Charts Click to enable macros Once the download is complete and Excel opens, for most tables, users will need to enable content before any numbers appear. Most users will be able to simply click on the Enable Content button located towards the top of the screen. Others may have to go into their Excel security settings under File>Options>Trust Center to change their local settings allowing macros to run. Currently, Mac computer users cannot download tables and charts, however we are working on a solution.

  49. Tables & Charts Many tables and charts are customizable and users can change dates or type of data displayed. In this table, for example, users can change the years of data displayed. To change the date, delete the current entry in the boxes and enter the year(s) desired.

  50. Tables & Charts This table and chart allows users to customize the data visible on the chart by simply removing or adding an “x” in the box next to the property types. The chart and legend will automatically adjust to user preferences, however the table below the chart will always remain the same.
