  2. Creation and use • Created as a government experiment • The term internet was coined in 1962 • Tim Berners-Lee created the code for use that would allow the internet in 1989 • Two ways to access the net • Email • Web browsers

  3. Educational use • E-mail • Students can have key-pals (pen-pals) globally • Students can be mentored by professionals • Teachers can collaborate with peers any time of day • Search engines to get information quickly (google, etc.)

  4. More uses • IM • Video logs • Web 2.0 • Second generation WWW • free collaborative online applications • RSS • Wiki • Atom

  5. Privacy and security • Web privacy • E-mail privacy • Spyware • Security • Nettique Do not say anything on-line or in an e-mail that you do not want repeated. You can not take it back!! Assume there is no privacy!!
