  18. Video Tips with Dave Braun - Watch and learn. Observe how the pros shoot a scene. It's often strong lighting, clear audio and simple cuts between scenes.- When shooting outside, note that there will be noises that may not go with what you are filming (car noises, people talking, etc.) Finding a quiet place to film outdoors makes a difference. -External mics will always be better than the built-in camera mic. Try a lavelier or shotgun microphone for optimal audio. This applies to interior shooting as well. WebChat #4: Media for the Public Corporation for National and Community Service Campaign Consultation, Inc.

  19. Video Tips with Dave Braun - When recording audio outdoors, make sure your mic has a windscreen on it. Nothing hurts more than watching your video after you’ve shot it, and the wind overpowers all of your dialogue.- Save money at the Hardware Store. You can do a lot with affordable shop lights, PVC pipe, a bubble level, double-sided tape and wood clamps for about half the price of what they would cost you from a video specialist. - Lighting: Avoid shooting at high noon – it creates harsh shadows. Early morn and late day will provide a ‘softer’ look. Decent lighting is the key to getting good, clean video. WebChat #4: Media for the Public Corporation for National and Community Service Campaign Consultation, Inc.

  20. Video Tips with Dave Braun Shade Your Lens. Sunlight shining directly on to the front of your lens will deteriorate your image. You can use your hand to block out the sun in a pinch.- Spend time on editing once you've got your rough. Try different sequences, and don't be afraid to experiment.- Here's a website resource that could add invaluable insight into the film industry: http://digitaljournalist.org/archives/platypus-theater.html - Camera placement: Try to always grab a wide, medium and close-up of your scene. It will help tell your story better during the edit. Experiment with interesting angles, camera moves, focus tricks, etc. Always shoot a ‘safety’ take when you can. - Questions? 23. How to take a winning photo … • General Tips • When taking portraits, talk to people with respect and curiosity, and • have fun! • Be adventurous with your composition – frame faces off-center, try • shooting from different angles, and don't be afraid to get up close. • Be aware of your light source. If the sun is in the background, your • subject will most likely be too dark to see in the photo. • Catch places at the best time of day – usually early morning or just • before sunset, when shadows are subtle. • Try using a flash when lighting is poor. But remember, if you get to • close to your subject with a flash, you'll white-out your picture.
