  1. Do Now • Twenty three plus a number is seventy two • The amount of hamburgers John cooked plus the amount of hotdogs David cooks is equal to sixteen. • Forty two times the difference of seven and a number.

  7. Sharon wanted to buy 5 books at the bookstore. If each book costs Y number of dollars, how could we write an equation that would help us figure out how much she spent on books?

  8. Ms. Diehl spent $35 at the grocery store buying raffle prizes for her students. Ms. Diehl knows she needs 12 prizes and each prize costs (m) dollars. Write an equation that represents this scenario.

  9. Now you try… Ms. Howell is taking six of her students to the movie theatre for student movie night. Ms. Howell spent a total of T dollars on the tickets. If tickets cost B dollars each, could you write an equation that will help Ms. Howell figure out how much money she spent for her six students and herself?

Joe’s and Baseball Cards but he doesn’t know how much it will all cost. Robin needs 5 G.I. Joe’s that are y dollars and 13 Baseball cards that are h dollars to complete his collection, write an expression to help Batman figure out how much money he is going to spend?

  12. Abraham Lincoln decided to quit the presidency and become a vampire slayer. He bought a total of 23 pieces of garlic cloves and silver crosses to prepare himself. If he bought G number of Garlic cloves, and C number of silver crosses, please write an equation to help him figure out how many of each item he bought.

Which equation represents this relationship, where C represents the cost, and m represents the number of miles in the ride? • C=5m + 1.5 • C= 1.5m + 5 • C= 1.5 m + 5m • C = 1.5(m-1) + 5 2. Lucy is helping her father input his company’s hard-copy files. Her father agreed that he would pay her $5 for the first file and a dollar for each file after that. Write an equation, where P stands for total her pay and f stands for the number of files completed.
