NORTH CAMPUS TUNNELS • Principle Corridor For Steam Distribution • Failures In Portions Direct Buried Piping • Currently Utilized For Power & Communication Cabling • Temperature – Reduce Cable Life • Serviceability • Structural Concerns • Load Rating • Water Infiltration • Pipe Anchors • In-situ Renovation

  11. NORTH CAMPUS TUNNELS • Tunnel Hierarchy • Walking Tunnel • Shallow Tunnel and Vaults • Tunnel Security • Tunnel Safety Shallow Tunnels Cabling Issues Load Rating Issues Anchoring Issues Water Infiltration

  12. North Campus Chilled Water • Two 500 Ton Water Cooled Chillers • Two 1,000 Ton Water Cooled Chillers • Firm Capacity 2000 Tons • Existing Peak Load 1100 Tons • Health & Learning 500 Tons • Distribution System Capable Of 4000 Tons • 350 – 450 SF/Ton • 500 Ton 200,000 SF • Plant Capable of Expansion • Thermal Storage • Ice Storage • Reduced Footprint

  13. SOUTH CAMPUS CHILLED WATER • One 500 TON Water Cooler Chiller • One 750 TON Water Cooler Chiller • Firm Capacity 500 TON • Existing Peak Load 300 TONS • Plant Capable of Expansion • Distribution System Capable of Expansion • Rock excavation issues if distribution system is extended south.

  14. SOUTH CAMPUS HTHW • Three HTHW Boilers (260 F, 300 PSI) • 10,000 to 46,000 #/HR • Installed 1970 to 2000 • Currently Plant has firm capacity • Plant has expansion capabilities • Rock excavation issues if distribution system is extended south. • Plant piping upgrades planned • Efficiency improvements

  15. NORTH CAMPUS ELECTRICAL POWER DISTRIBUTION • New Switch Gear at North Central Plant • New 12.47 KV distribution system • System expandable • Spare sections in gear • Spare conduits • South feeder 9.7 MVA • West feeder 4.3 MVA • Peak Demand 6.6 MVA • Not Full N+1 • At 4 VA/SF • Add 600,000 SF West Feeder South Feeder

  16. South Campus Loop Distribution North Campus Primary Selective Distribution

  17. SOUTH CAMPUS ELECTRICAL POWER DISTRIBUTION • Newer looped system, extends south to ARD • Single Feed from APS • Feeder Capacity 9.8 MVA • Peak Load 3.6 MVA • At 4 VA/SF • Add +1M SF • Not Full N+1 APS Sub

  18. SOUTH CAMPUS PV ARRAY Developed as part of ARD development NAU solicitation for ESCO APS Sub PV

  19. POTABLE WATER • Master meter system supplied by City • Provides domestic and fire protection service • Typically 8” to 12” DIP / CI mains • 800,000 LF • Network generally have capacity • Initial system installed in early 1900’s • Schedule replacement of older mains • Valve Replacement • Use of RW reduced demand

  20. RECLAIMED WATER • Single source from City • New distribution system on campus • 6” and 8” mains • Extends Central and North Campus • Available to major turf areas • Utilized for carriage water in buildings • Water quality issues with cooling tower usage.

  21. NATURAL GAS • Master Meter System • Four masters meters • Two at Central Plants • Majority steel Distribution System • Capacity generally acceptable • Required upgrades to piping, valving, CP system • Extensions required for Co-gen options

  22. SANITARY SEWER • NAU collection system on campus • Discharges to City collection system • Three main outfalls • Generally capacity in the system • Older mains (North Campus) at end of service life • Recommend CCTV and lining program
