  3. Guidelines for Using Aids • Prepare visual aids well in advance • Keep visual aids simple • Make sure visual aids are large enough • Use a limited amount of text • e.g. 6x6 rule or 8x8 rule • Use fonts and color effectively • Use images and animation strategically

Guidelines for Presenting Aids • Display where listeners can see them • Avoid passing visual aids around the room • Display visual aids only while discussing them • Explain them clearly and concisely • Talk to your audience, not the visual aid • Practice speech using visual aid • Remember, this is a formal presentation: do not try to mimic lecture slides
