DBQ Core Scoring: • Explicit THESIS that addresses all parts of the question. • Uses a MAJORITY of the docs (Half + 1) • Demonstrates a basic MEANING of the docs (only 1 major error allowed) • Supports thesis using majority of the docs w/ appropriate interpretations. • Analyzes POV in at least 3 docs • Organizes docs into at least 3 GROUPS

  3. Expanded Core (Holistic): • Clear, analytical & comprehensive thesis • Uses all or almost all of the docs • Docs used persuasively as evidence • Shows understanding of the nuances of the docs • Analyzes POV in at least 4 docs. • Analyzes docs in additional ways (4 or more groups) • Recognizes & develops change over time • Brings in relevant outside info.

  4. Additional Tips: • Do NOT repeat historical background. • Do NOT refer to docs by number • Use document & author’s name • Summary = how does it fit thesis • POV analysis (if applicable) • Number of document in parentheses. • Do NOT be colloquial. • Do NOT quote the docs (unnecessary). • Topic sentences should introduce subtopic that links all the docs back to your thesis.
