Solids , Liquids and Gases The Three States of Matter
Solid • Solids have a definite size, shape and mass. • Atoms vibrate in one place. • Atoms are more condensed than in liquids or gases. • Some examples of solids are ice , snow, trees, and houses.
Liquid • Liquids have a certain volume but not mass. • Atoms move quickly enough to overcome most attraction. • Atoms aren’t as condensed as solids but don’t move as freely as gases. • Liquids take the shape of a container. • Some examples of liquids are water , gasoline and soda.
Gas • Gases don’t have a certain size , shape or mass. • Atoms move fast enough to overcome all attraction. • Atoms are able to move freely. • Some examples of gases are oxygen , helium , and carbon dioxide.
