  1. Literacy Brain Research Teacher Modeling Laura Baker Literacy Coach Recent Research identified the Mirror Neuron which are unique brain cells active when we observe someone. We all know that teachers are MODELERS of information. As students observe our modeling thinking through new information their mirror neurons are firing and influencing their performance. (Lea Winerman’s Monitor of Psychology 2005) Interesting Fact: Our MIDBRAIN is responsible for regulating motivation and reward processing. It responds better to novelty than to the familiar explaining why rote memorization of reading facts doesn’t seem to work.
