  2. Why DVD Flashcards? • Narration on DVD provides immediate instruction and feedback that traditional flashcards do not. • Interesting colors and text animations are more stimulating to children than traditional flashcards. • Unlike computerized reading programs, DVD Flashcards do not require expensive computer equipment and computer knowledge to use. • Perfect for use in a portable DVD player turning commute and travel time into instructional time. © 2007 DVD Flashcards. 3. Why DVD Flashcards? • Turns passive TV time at home into worthwhile instructional time. • DVD is self-paced so children advance through sets according to their own ability levels. • Perfect for use as a literacy center activity in the classroom. • Temporarily frees moms, dads, and teachers to do other important things since immediate intervention is not necessary. • Supplemental student workbooks are available for reinforcement. © 2007 DVD Flashcards. 4. Why High Frequency Flash Words? • Intensively focuses on 238 most frequently used words in the English language seen in print materials. • Ordered sets of words direct parent or teacher as to which words to learn first. • Short sets make learning the words more managable for parents and teachers and less overwhelming for children. • Children feel reading success by the end of the first set! • Each set spells the word which serves as a review of letter recognition skills. © 2007 DVD Flashcards. 5. Why High Frequency Flash Words? • Each set practices the words at least 3 times for fluency. • Each set uses the words learned in the context of an actual sentence so that words are not learned merely in isolation. • Various sentence structures expose children to a variety of punctuation. • All words sets are available from the main menu of the DVD making navigation to the set you are working on easy. • Perfect for use with anyone learning to read the English language. © 2007 DVD Flashcards. 6. Recommendations for Use • Use for instruction, not for entertainment. • Focus on one set of words at a time. Only advance to next word set when complete mastery of current word set is achieved. • Offer children small rewards as they master sets or show improvement in order to provide an incentive for future hard work and effort. • Use plenty of print materials, such as beginning readers, to search for words in sets already mastered. • Periodically go back to previously mastered sets to review and aid retention of word recognition. • Use with children as young as 2 or 3 years old soon after child demonstrates letter recognition of the alphabet. • Supplement DVD and Workbook knowledge with a phonics study to increase word attack skills. © 2007 DVD Flashcards.
