  1. The prophesies • 1 Peter 1:8-12 • 9 receiving the end of your faith — the salvation of your souls. • 10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven

  2. The Triumphal Entry • The Coming King • Zech 9:9 • "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! • Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! • Behold, your King is coming to you; • He is just and having salvation, • Lowly and riding on a donkey, • A colt, the foal of a donkey.

Zech 14:4 • 4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, • Which faces Jerusalem on the east. • And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, • From east to west, • Making a very large valley; • Half of the mountain shall move toward the north • And half of it toward the south.

  4. The Chorus • Mark 11:9 • Those Who Proceed Chanted: • "Hosanna! • 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!' • Who Followed Replied: • 10 Blessed is the kingdom of our father David • That comes in the name of the Lord! • All : • Hosanna in the highest!"

The Fig Tree Withered • Luke 13:6-9 • He also spoke this parable: "A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 Then he said to the keeper of his vineyard, 'Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and find none. Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?' 8 But he answered and said to him, 'Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and fertilize it. 9 And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that you can cut it down.'"

Matt 21:18-19 Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, "Let no fruit grow on you ever again." Immediately the fig tree withered away. Mark 11:20-21 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away." When the Fig tree withered?

The Condition of acceptable Prayers Have Faith in God • Mark 11:24 • Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. • Mark 11:25-26 • And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses."

But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, 44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."

Politic or Religion • PHAR'ISEES (far'i-sez; Gk. from Aram. perisha', "separated"). • The Pharisees were known for insisting that the law of God be observed as the scribes interpreted it and for their special commitment to keeping the laws of tithing and ritual purity. • HERODIANS • They were not a religious sect, but, as the name implies, a court or political party, supporters of the dynasty of Herod

Denarius • A denarius was the day-wages of a laborer in Palestine (Matt 20:2,9,13; Tobit 5:15); • and the daily pay of a Roman soldier was less (Tacitus, Ann. 1:17). • In the time of Christ the denarius bore the image of the emperor (Matt 22:19.; Mark 12:16), • but formerly it was impressed with the symbols of the republic.

  16. SADDUCEES • [SAJ uh seez] -- members of a Jewish faction that opposed Jesus during His ministry. Known for their denial of the bodily resurrection, the Sadducees came from the leading families of the nation-the priests, merchants, and aristocrats. The high priests and the most powerful members of the priesthood were mainly Sadducees

  17. SADDUCEES • The Sadducees rejected "the tradition of the elders," that body of oral and written commentary which interpreted the law of Moses. This automatically placed them in direct conflict with another Jewish group, the PHARISEES, who had made the traditions surrounding the Law almost as important as the Law itself. The Sadducees insisted that only the laws that were written in the law of Moses

Scribes • These persons (called in Hebrew. “Sopherim”; Greek,”Grammatei”) were originally merely writers or copyists of the law, who followed this business as a mode of livelihood; but eventually they rose to the rank of a learned profession -- becoming the doctors of the law and interpreters of the Scriptures • They divided the Law to 248 Command and 365 Prohibit or warning
