Greece's National Seismic Monitoring: Infrastructure and Partnerships for Earthquake Research

The Institute of Geodynamics at the National Observatory of Athens (GI-NOA) coordinates Greece's seismic research initiatives. Collaborating with prestigious institutions such as the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, Aristotle University of Thessalonica, and the University of Patras, a national framework has been established. This includes a unified seismic network of 90 stations, an accelerometric network of 230 stations, and CGPS networks. Supported by the Greek government through the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT), these infrastructures enhance earthquake monitoring and research capabilities in Greece.

Governmental Links • Describe the commitment from your national government and/or funding agencies The aforementioned National Infrastructures are presently supported by the Gen.Sec.Research and Technology,(GSRT), of the Ministry of Development. • National body coordinating ESFRI initiatives The GSRT of the Ministry of Development. • Status at national level GSRT leads the developments to support the ESFRI initiatives under a National Roadmap.
